Another part should be modification: on ebay you can buy really cheap pedals. For example this week I bought a Ken-Multi/monarch Distortion for Eur 8,50 plus shipment. This boxes are not so bad. For example the PSK SDS-2, SDS-3 or SDS-5 (seems to be now the roque SDS-5 can be easily be modified to be a Rat. They put in this unit since years a 470 Ohm instead of the 47 Ohm resistor in the...
Hi, everyone. This is my first post at freestompboxes.org. :) Since I am indebted to site members who posted about BOSS GE-7 mods, I registered here to post about my vintage BOSS GE-7B mods. My thanks to all whose posts helped me.
Recently I sought a 1988 MIJ BOSS GE-7B Bass Equalizer for audio upgrades, to use with bass guitar. The cheap one I found was a bit beaten up, but it worked.
Researching this project, I saw that for the cost of an upgrade kit, I could upgrade...
Hi everyone. I am hoping you can give me some direction. I want to build an MXR Micro Amp boost circuit which has a balanced XLR output in addition to the 1/4 output we normally use for guitar. So basically, I want a Micro Amp which gives clean boost, but also has the option of converting from an unbalanced to a balanced signal. (The goal is to have the XLR out from the MicroAmp go to my power amp's XLR in when I run directly from my pedal board to the power amp). Does anyone know how I could...
Mini Danelectro Pastrami Overdrive? Only one I've found is a spacey tone bender. But that's what I did with their fab flange. And it's wicked unpredictable. But I'm ok with that. I just don't need another.
It takes up so much real estate on my board. What enclosure (pre drilled) would you recommend to rehouse this. I mean, there is really a crap ton of empty space in there. Please keep in mind that I want to keep the positive tip DC.
I don't want a LBM because they sound different and mine sounds like Black Sabbath and Jethro Tull. Which is good...
I have the DS-1, I love its tone but the damn bastard clearly sucks my tone (taking out dynamics and high freqs) when it's off. What's the best way for making these Boss cheapos true bypass or at least ease the problem?
Can it be done internally or should I install a 3DPT switch on it and seal its own mechanic by welding the footswith on fixed position :hmmm:
When ever I use my AC-2 at gigs I can to boost the signal after the AC-2 to have a level similar to the bypassed signal, which requires me to hit and extra pedal when switching back and forth. Is there any way to tweak the AC-2 for more volume?
Since it's true bypassed, the entire section after the removed FET on the E.G. output is now unused. Could I take the output and send it back to the FET drain to gain some gain?
Hey gang,
I tried my JF-02 with my new strat and I love it. I posted in here a week or so ago looking for mods but I don't really need anything to shape the sound now, its awesome with the strat. Anyway, there is one issue, this pedal picks up radio with the strat. My other pedals don't pick up the radio so I wondered if there was anyway to ground the circuit better or something to cut down on the radio interference.
i was going to post this in , as it seemed right to post there, as i always say: when you finally find what your looking for- put it away in the first place you looked for it.... then my netiquette kicked in and i decided to open a new thread rather than drag up an old one.
ironically i have included the link so you can drag it up yourselves, so in reality the difference is what? no idea, but i seem to digress....
be aware that my knowledge on electronics is amateurish at best, i know what i...
so, since i managed to find those 3PDT stompswitches, i decides to true-bypass my mighty Boss BF2.
since doing this I just decides to mod a little bit the pedal. here you go:
- changed IC1 and IC2 with two TL072
- removed the flip-flop circuit and true bypassed the pedal
- vibrato switch: lift one end of R28, so that the dry sound is taken out and only the wet sound is left (switch top right)
- LFO waveform switch: select the wave shape of the LFO triangle (original) or square (switch left...
It's not a bad pedal but it has two major issues that desperately need fixing - one is the volume drop - is it just change a resistor??
The other major problem is that the cycling of the pedal can be heardd evn when not engaged - what can I do about this it's driving me absolutely crackers!!! Aaaaaaahhhhhhh!!!! :scratch
This is my first post here. I've spent the last couple of days reading some of the stickies and gathering information. I'm a complete newb when it comes to soldering and pedal mods. All of the info I've found here has been really great and inspiring.
So, I'm going to try my first mod this weekend. I have an old Danelectro Fab Tone that I haven't used in forever and I saw a few mods in Wampler's beginner book that I thought I would try out. I just picked up some parts from my local...
I have a couple of the older, two knob versions of the DOD FX-25. I've heard these things sound great on bass. My problem is I have to turn the sensitivity all the way up to the max, and really hit the strings hard in order to get the filter to engage. I've got a very hot signal, an Ernie Ball Music Man HH 4-string, so I don't think it's my signal. It's the same on both pedals, so I know it's not just one bad pedal.
I've done some research and found out that some pedal companies and modders offer services including installing a switch to the Line6 DL4 that automatically switches to the looper. Needless to say that this caught my attention. I immediately opened up my DL4, grabbed my DMM and put my thinking cap on. The logical idea would be o look at the rotary switch and see what are the conditions for the looper to be active. After a while I figured that the rotary has 5 terminals, 1 connected...
I bought this unit about 20 years ago and shelved it,never really used it.A couple of months ago I dusted it off and plugged it in,it worked so I decided to give it a try.I'm assuming everybody is more or less familiar with what the unit does, multieffect bla bla rack mount.
The stock progams are awful unless you are into Rammstein so I read the manual and started programming form zero after a factory default reboot, basically I just wanted to use it for something cause as it sat it was a heavy...
A friend gave me a new Distortion +.
I was wondering if there are any mods to give the pedal more gain/crunch?
Also, maybe tame the treble a bit (add more girth)?
And, different clipping sounds?
Anything really.
I'm getting close to buying a GGG kit and hand building it because it just doesn't sound very good to me.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks,
Andy
Got a cheap Belcat Distortion pedal.
I know the Church of Distortion is a very Broad one and this pedal is on the crunchy brittle treble end. So after finishing my Germanium FuzzFace the Belcat was just to Crackly for me.
It has to Red Diodes handling the clipping so first I tried to OA90 Germanium diodes and that was just to smoothy with huge drop in volume. Maybe 4 or 6 might sound better but I only had two at hand. Then I tried 2x1n4148 very ordinary with a little more volume. 3x1n4148 sound...
I've got one incoming, so I can always go ahead and see how blind I can go on the SMD resistors. But I thought I would ask if anyone has dug in to have as much as a guess of whether there was a particular schematic that these pedals are chasing.
So I have this old CS-3 that uses an ACA power supply. I put a jumper across pads 13 and 14 to bypass the resistor and diode so I can use it with a PSA power supply. Works fine but now the LED is dimly lit when the pedal is bypassed. Tried putting a higher resistor value in for the drop-down resistor but it didn't work. I put in as high as 50k and it's just making the LED too dim when the pedal is on. I even tried putting a jumper across the diode on the LED. Didn't work. Last thing I tried was...
