I haven't been able to find anything on this with a Google search, on the DiscoFreq site or anywhere here - does this thing go by another name? I'm not posting this as a request but more of a does anyone even know this exists ?
Hi guys - I found this in my 1976 Fender Service Manual, while looking for something else
I built one a loooooooooooooooooooooong time ago - it sounded like shit, ( so should be good for today's sound    ) - but seriously, maybe I didn't know what I was doing then - too many drugs
Enjoy
Steve
I'm not sure on the vintage of this one, if it's post '75 it'll get moved I guess :P
I stumbled across this in a pawnshop in Saskatoon about 1993. Picked it up as I was just (re-) picking up guitar back then after a 12 year hiatus, and it was cheap. I forget but like $25-30, which was cheap even back then. It's fairly lo-fi, thick, chewy, has a tremendous speed range (from 'is this thing on?' to 'wawawawawawawawa' as fast as your lips can say it)(heck maybe a bit faster!). I've owned numerous...

I've received this one recently from my friend to have a real unit so i can compare it with my clone.
The first thing i looked at was the number on pots - 1979. Considering EH changed graphics
on Big Muffs in 1976-77 this is a bit of an unexpected date. So i contacted the owner of this brilliant site
to help me with his opinion.
Here is what he things:
Every now and then these odd Big Muffs turn up. The graphics did...
Comparing to my J:
- this one suffers from a volume drop when engaged (even without TB installed)
- the pot really works at the last stretch of the turn, and goes to higher speed than J
- it pops like hell when turned on/off - there is a LED mod in it (DPDT switch) but not True Bypass
Input stage:
The input stage is different from what i know from the J unit...
The images should do most of the talking here. I'm really wondering what this thing is. The case is clearly that of a FZ-1A and the serial number is well below 20k. The internals however are that of a FZ-1B: It uses a 9v instead of AA or 2xAA. The real surprise is that it uses non-plated grid board, not something I've seen on any other one. The transistors are 2N3565, different from the 2N3860s listed here:
My best guess is that someone broke their 1A and stuck a 1B board in. I suppose it...
I'm looking for some info about some CBS-Arbiter effects, where they came from (Jen??)???, do they have any conection to Colorsound (Power driver seems similar to a Overdriver...)??? and that kind os stuff is what I want to know:
-FUZZ KING
-DOUBLER
-FUZZ PHAZER
-POWER DRIVER
Of course, if you have any shematic, it would be highly apreciated
This is an italian super rare pedal, that i have traced for a friend of mine who owns it.
Nothing special, YAFF with some twicked values and with a 220pF cap across base and collector of the first transistor. It's a very very acid fuzz. The wah section also sounds very nice. Enjoy

The Maestro Controfuzz is a strange beast. The subtractive mix effect of the fuzz control is quite unique, and allows a useful mix of distorted and clean signals. I threw together the Vero layout this afternoon  - basically to try the thing out (and see if it is as good as I remember from 30 years ago) and to experiment with various differing clipping schemes. I tried a pair of green LEDs for the clipping, and increased the 220k resistor off the top of the diodes to 820k to compensate for...
Hey, I have a maestro Fuzz-tone fz-1 that's very old and sounds like an overdrive unless you give it some time to warm up and then it starts to sound fuzzy. It's still not as fuzzy as a Fuzzrite or something but can get a satisfaction tone if the amp is bright enough.
Also, the signal goes on and off depending on the how much the built in cable is moving around. Overall if the fuzz isn't on full it sounds weird..like the volume is being turned up and down by itself. Sometimes i can also hear...
welcome the the first installment (of hopefully many) of the Freestompboxes.org Monthly Circuit Analysis. sorry for the late start. i decided to just put this first one up and call it september, but if we feel we are finished, we can start next month's early. please feel free to add anything you feel is of value- concepts, schematics, links, etc. and bring forth any questions you might have as well- we are here to learn, so don't be shy. i tried to get us started with a few of the main points,...
I came across this and snagged it. Can anyone help me date it?
Also, it doesn't work....... Ive tried most everything to my knowledge. Is there anything that is a common problem for these like the chip???
Hi Guys Im new to this forum and have a question. I recently bought a early 70's EHX low frequency compressor in non working condition for $5.00 at a Nashville Flee Market. I was planning on repairing it which brought me to this site but have since got the idea that I could use the 36999 transistors, the 1972 100k pots and the original box to make a Big Muff triangle. The box is identical and the three knobs are even labled the same. I'm just torn because i would be ruining a vintage piece of...
