I have the two cabs from a Marshall Microstack. They each have a 10 Celestion inside with closed backs. I had been wanting to get a Microstack for the longest time, but for it's cabs only. The head is solid state. I got lucky last month and scored the cabs only for $100. I recently ordered a Blackheart Killer Ant for the head, and I have a Blackstar HT-5H on back order.
My question is about hooking up the cabs to these heads. The original Microstack solid state head was made for the stack and...
I discovered the matamps amps , and the sound is really good ! Someones has the schématic of those amps ? Espacielly the GTL (or called green ). As I know we can find all we want on Internet (it's crazy!!)
I was reading another thread and in was mentioned that you could build this amp without the tubes and use Jfets. This got me thinking how I have always thought this preamp would be cool to make for my wet/dry/wet rig but I want transistor not tubes for the wet sounds. With a few questions I was able to put together a layout based on my limited understanding of R.G.'s schematic on his site:
Here is my layout:
I would appreciate any comments or corrections and I will try to fix them (I often...
I need a little help from all you tube amp gurus. Here's the question - Can the Valve Junior take a tube rectifier, can the stock power transformer handle it, and if it can which rectifier would be best bet? I've got a hole that needs filling  with a tube :whappen:
Cheers, from a tube n00b...
Oh and for reference, I'm talking about the Valve Junior Head - schematic here (version 3):
Lady and guys,
I have a 1961 Blonde Bandmaster that I got in trade from a fellow over 5 years ago. I was completely stoked when I got it and I have fruitlessly spent untold hours going over it piece by piece trying to get a good sound out of it.
The problem is that it has this midrange thing, like a 'plucky' sound to the attack of the note. The note starts with a KLUNK ...and the note blooms from there. It's really obnoxious; my guitar teacher (who used to do session work in Nashville, so he...
I've been out of circulation for a while. I've had precious little free time as of late and, feeling somewhat better (recently diagnosed with Psoriatic Arthritis), I've been spending more and more free time playing and less time breathing solder fumes. It's been good! I was starting to burn out on building pedals.
I've been thinking about building another guitar amp recently (specifically a 5E3 tweed Deluxe) though the cost of such a project has kept me from moving forward on it....
i wanna build an unusual tube/ss hybrid amp. the idea is:
tube preamp
2or3 x 12ax7 in the preamp.
1 channel
mid gain preamp, probably fender style
3 band eq, fender style
volume control
to
tube power amp
single-ended, class a, 1 or 2 tube power amp. 6l6 probably (fenderish tone wanted)
low power (1-10W), good for stuff like home practice and recording
speaker out
transformer-isolated line out
line out to
mosfet/fet power amp
switchable on/off, independent of the tube part
100 to...
Does anyone know what became of the website that had hundreds of guitar amp insides photos? There's a broken link here called insideamps.com but I'm not sure if that was it or not. :?:
I want to replace one of the pots in my Deluxe Reverb reissue amp with a push/pull pot so that I can switch the bright cap on or off. The only pot I have at home is a 250K audio pot from Alpha which would be a perfect replacement for the bass pot. The only problem that I can see is the power rating which is as 0.2w.
Will that be enough or do I need a pot+switch with a higher rating?
Lovers of Tweed era amps post your mods. I'm working on a 5E3 Deluxe and have others in mind for the future. For the deluxe I've seen the PaulC mod, and heard of the humbucker mod (don't know what it is). Anything else out there?
I might be building a Bassman next if I don't blow myself up first, Lol
Looking to build a nice valve amp (anything up to about 15 watts? home use only..), but all the sites I can find are abroad and quite pricey.. especially with the GBP getting weaker...
The best place I've found so far is Tube Amp Doctor (Germany?), which isn't so bad as it's in the EU meaning no import tax - I think!?!
I like the look of their Fender Tweed kits, especially the 5E3, as it will be my first amp build, but I do like a challenge! but even this kit, with a speaker, will cost me...
Here's my 1st draft of the Matamp C7 schematic, traced from pictures I found on the net. The indicated component value are believed to be correct (read from the pics):
Matamp C7
A few interesting points:
_ the tonestack design is taken straight out of a Hiwatt Custom, although the identified values are different. This kind of tonestack isn't very efficient in a Hiwatt (at least the ones I have played including mine), but it is very powerful in Sound City amps.
_ the valve after the return of...
A Jensen P12R, mfg/date code 220735. The organ is old, and dating the pots in the amplifier leads me to believe that it's a 1957 manufacturing date. I bought the organ at a yard sale because it was chock full of tubes, all nice RCA, Tung Sol and Dumont 12AX7s (24 of them!). The amplifier uses a pair of 6V6GTs with a couple of 12AU7 a 6CU5 and something else on the chassis. I plan to use it for a low power head of some sort, probably along the lines of a tweed deluxe or something. Lots of...
what do you think: if I crank my amp to 10(max vol) and I add a boost pedal up front... am I going to get a louder output (on most amps?) or is it just going to distort more... ie am I guaranteed to be out of headroom at max volume?
I've got the Clubster 45 here. This guy wants me to add a gain-switch (that is originally on the panel in form of a push-pull) to the footswitch instead of the reverb switch. The footswitch is plastic and don't wanna break it. I can't see any lock or screws ... any ideas how to open the footswitch? I just wanna check out if i can simply remove the reverb and install the gain switch.
Hey guys, I am going to be building an amp soon and I am in the process of planning it out. I think I would like to put in an effects loop, but I had a quick question about it. I was thinking of having the send be activated by a switched jack after the tone controls, etc. but before the power amp section. The return would come back before the power amp section as well. Does this seem like it would work?
Also, I want to do some channel switching but not really channels, just bypassing a gain...
So I discovered the positive effect of having a filter choke in the power supply in the thread peavey nasties . Immidiately the question pops up, why not replace all resistors with chokes? The further down you go the less current is flowing and you could use smaller and cheaper inductors. Any comments on this? Might this be someting to try out in the next little SE custom build? Have it been done?
