Feel free to move this to the noob section  I picked up a couple of enclosed Neutrick input jacks like so..
There are three lugs on each side. When no plug is inserted there is continuity between each pair of lugs. When the plug is inserted, one side of the lugs makes TRS contact, the other side is not touching anything.
Sooooo, the $1m question. Which side should I use?
Anybody tried some automotive 2 part type clearcoats? I have a box hand painted in enamels that I what to keep from chipping as much as possible. But know nothing at all about the more industrial strength stuff haha anybody have any experience and what kinds could work?
In addition to using diecast aluminium boxes i have also made a few pedals in ABS boxes. They are much easier to drill and work around with. Only problem is they feel very light. Now, i can think of the following solutions if anybody has any more suggestions please let me know.
1- a number of commercial pedals use the upper casing as plastic while the back lid is metal making it heavier. I cant get hold of just metal back lids, would need to sacrifice a whole die cast box which isnt feasible...
Hi,
sorry for my bad exaplanation. Take a look at the v-twin to get a clue.
I´m building a dr boogey at the moment and wanted to make a real cool enclosure for it. So I thought of a 1590BB and put some recto-metal-waffle-stuff in front.
How do I flatten the metal, to make to pots run smooth on top? Take look at the v-twin (footswitches) to get an idea. Obviously it´s just a hole, which is not drilled in complete....but.....how do I do this???
I hope there´s anyone out there, who could help...
Has anyone done any wallpapering to finish their stompboxes? I was thinking of using pages from a book or magazine and was wondering if anyone has any tips they could offer.
I am (trying) to finish a stompbox. I plan on spraying the whole thing one color, covering parts with masking tape, spraying with another color, repeat multiple times. I tried this today and I ran into a number of problems.
1. Sometimes when applying spray paint, puddles of paint form.
2. Sometimes when applying spray paint, the spray itself pushes the paint out of the way making very thin and translucent areas while other areas have puddles (like in problem 1)
3. When removing masking...
I have finished building the BSIAB2 project sold by GGG and was wondering if anyone knows or can advise on the correct painting procedure for this box.
I got the following spray paints yesterday:
1 can of grey primer spray paint
1 can of black glossy spray paint
1 can of white glossy spray paint
1 roll of 1/2 masking tape
220 metal sanding paper
I would like to paint it as Van Halen's first guitar, just white with black stripes:
how is everyone mounting their circuit (vero) boards to the enclosure?
i know the BYOC uses the sticky tabs on through holes on the pcb but im after other suggestions?
also...i have a question re Grounding to the enclosure...especially if painting the exterior of the enclosure...
do you have to file back the paint from the input/output jack holes?
if it was to make a pedal with say a starwars/transformers/futurama etc character on it..and named the pedal after said character...eg bart simpson overdrive...
am commititng an offence if it is for personal use?
am i committing an offence if i sold it? (but i only made one)
My sis painted my byoc chorus with acrylic paint. I heard about clearcoating the finish so as to protect it?
How do I go about with this clearcoating? What do I need?
Goggle doesnt seem to cough out any answers
Do i need to silk screen?
I've been using waterslide decal paper,
but perhaps it won't work -- since I need white colored
graphics and text on top of a dark colored painted enclosure.
Alright so I just finished my ts-808 keeley clone and assembled the pedal unpainted (pcb mounted inside). I was wondering if anyone had any ideas for decorating / painting the pedal w/o having to remove the guts, as I'm somewhat afraid of damaging the pcb (mounted pretty well in there). thanks, frankie
I'm wondering if four foot switches is too crowded on a Hammond 1790. I know I could probably look at a ruler, but, well...
Has anyone made anything with four footswitches and put it in a 1790? I'm a gigging musician so I need something that'll be comfortable, and that won't be too small to screw up on.
The scales around pots/knobs that is..
Anybody know how to make them? or even have ready to use flat images of some nice ones?
I've seen the scale-o-matic site ( ), but they're pretty standard looking..
I don't even know what to search for to find them!
I'm hoping I can use these jacks like normal :slap:
They're switched jacks from Rapid - 3 poles with 2 switched upon instertion ( these : )
There's a .pdf showing pins and layout etc, but how would I wire them as input or output? Will be used in a Neovibe (hopefully), so no need for battery switch...
Anyone here ever try this Envirotex Lite stuff on a pedal? This is that thick high-gloss pour-on epoxy that's often seen on bartops, looking like it's maybe 1/8 thick and almost wet.
Thinking it might be fun and probably pretty protective. Anyone try it, or do I need to take one for the team?
Just wondering if anyone has finished a box using any of the epoxy enamel spray paints available? If so what is your opinion, is it any better/ more durable?
I supposed everybody by now could do a swirl paint job, RG Tutorial has been online since 1997, so maybe we could do something funkier. Like this, for instance.
Or this set
These look very good and should be easy to do after some tryouts. Help us out here Donner, come on! I think it's done using the dremel to create an image on the surface to get a dark/shiny contrast and then soak it in some kind of coloured transparant paint. I might be totally wrong, but what the heck...
And i was in the BuildReport from the Lovepedal Eternity, that die Enclosures can be etched....
Im not very experienced, but i think the Technique is very simple..
I have a handful of pedals I put together. I want to do a cool project out of it. I need to learn the art of silkscreening. any tips? do most builders get these made for them or just send their boxes off for screening? I want to do something fun with the screens so I am curious about the screen process. Anyone?
I'm thinking about having small metal self stick nameplates made for my pedals, black print on aluminum, about 3/4 by 2 . I found some places on the web that will do it for $1.50-$2 each. Anyone have any recommendations/experiences getting this kind of thing done? I'dlove to have them made locally, thought about trying a trophy shop but figure they'll charge too much.
