Hello (and hi - I'm new here ;) )

I have this Aria OD-1 (board marked AOD-1)

Sounds great - fat and warm.
I'm no expert - this is my first post.
OD sounds like it has Asymmetrical clipping. A bit like an SD-1 / OD-1 but waaay more low end than an SD-1, and the gain ('drive') suddenly goes to fuzzy distortion after around 3.30 o' clock.

I love it, but I want to rehouse it.

Has a JRC4558DX OP-amp - not looking to put a socket in - happy enough with that.

Can anyone comment on the circuit please?
A: is it SD-1/OD-1'ish - Asymmetrical?
B: I think* I can work out how to desolder the jacks and wire up to neutriks (* thats about my level!), but how would I make this TB? (can it be done?)
C: Ouch .. that ribbon cable to the pots looks worysome - what do i do with that? ) may just keep that and the daughter board with the pots on and drill the box to fit - would that be a sensible move?

Really sorry if you see 10+ of similar posts a day - but hope someone can help , or point in right direction.

How good is this OD..
Well I am lucky enough to have snagged a Maxon OD-820 for low beans recently.
Fantastic OD. Truly.
But, somehow .. I (me) sound just that bit 'better' through this ol' thing.
Familiarity . At home = confidence . I guess.

Please help me keep it goin' !
Cheers

Hi,
It looks a bit like an AriON pedal that I have ,which IS slightly different from an SD/TS circuit.
I've never really drawn it out ( should do I guess ) because, like You , I like it fine the way it is.
It does have assymetrical clipping ( I can see the 3 diodes in Your photo - D3,4 and 5 ).
What do You intend to re-house it in ?

Thanks for reply ;)

I intend to house it in a fairly regular 3.5"x5" -ish alum. box.

I guess I'm lookin for advice as to how best convert to TB a the same time.
I dont have an out-and-out-fetish for TB, nor do I have an issue with nicely buffered stomps, but, sadly this otherwise great OD circuit does fairly noticeably affect tone in bypass.

Any ideas how I go about bypassing the existing buffer on that board ? - please.

It's surely not too difficult to convert it to true bypass.
But if you do that and rehouse it, you'll have as much work as if you would build a clone from scratch.

In both cases, you have to find (or draw) a schematic first.

I think the audio path will be very similar to existing overdrives, so it will be easy to modify an existing veroboard layout.
