2) How can I fix this?
The easiest way would be to understand what you're doing, instead of changing some parts just because someone said something...

i just did this mod too, and it does sound great. However I couldn't get ahold of a different IC, so i stacked another 4558, to try to boost the headroom and i think it did. It sounds like it was given a steroid shot!

Stacking IC's DOES NOT increase headroom.
