I just added some gut shots of both sides of the circuit board here (last 2 pics):
http://www.effectsdatabase.com/model/ibanez/first/83

I bought the one in the last 2 pictures, I hope it arrives soon :D

Can anyone tell me how close this is to the Ibanez Fuzz Machine and/or the Shin-Ei Super Fuzz?

Hopefully..... to get more pictures and cap values....

Not very much. The things in common are a Ge-diode-clipper and the tone switch. That´s all.

Oh, and a similar Fet-input stage as in the Fuzz-Machine.

Topology:
Fet-input > Potentiometer > 1-transistor amp > diode-clipper > tone-change > Fet-amp > Potentiometer

A little bit odd is the diferent labelling:
first potentiometer - Balance
second poti - Fuzz Depth
On the Standard Fuzz its in the opposite way.

There´s a sucker born every minute - and too many of them end up in the bootweak pedal biz.

Its nothing like either of those. The Ibanez Standard (fuzz machine) and Shinei are based on the "Superfuzz" 6 transistor fuzz. The 83 has only three transistors. There's what appears to be a germanium diode but not a back to back pair. Not sure what its role is. Do you know what the function of the second foot switch is?

Look more carefully:
the second diode is hidden by the big brown capacitor.

One switch says Tone and the other Fuzz.
(the ring around the switch)
Is that what you're asking Brad?

Yes, the owner of the other n°83 Fuzz already told me the labels and pots are switched, it was like that on his pedal and also on this one, seems to be a factory mistake.

I'm trying to get in touch with some owners of the Greco Fuzz to see if it's the same with those (probably).

It didn't arrive yet...

I know I loved the Double Sound, but I didn't use it in months, so I can't give a description of its sound :-/

i thought that topology sounded familiar!
Bernardduur wrote:How does this fuzz sound????
i think with an original model that will all depend on how well the FETs were chosen. :D

Not really:
They have been selected to "-Y" and act only as linear amplifiers.

How does this fuzz sound ?
:hmmm:
.
:hmmm:

:hmmm:

I think it sounds......., it sounds........: distorted.

Maybe, but it's only the 2nd pedal of this model I ever saw (and this one is 100% original, the other one wasn't), it has to be one the rarest Ibanez pedal (except for those made by fOXX, but those were never in any catalogs, so no official products).

Also, I did an incredible deal a few days before, more about that when it arrives ;)

No, I still only have 1 Mu-Tron, the Mu-Tron III...

This one is more rare, but less known...
