School Me on FSH-1 Noise Generation

Information
I have always like the idea of a sample/hold effect, but there are a lot of horror stories about it. I am right now just trying to understand how the noise generation works. I understand the timing of sampling the noise level of a noisy transistor, but the voltage that is sent to the VCF section, what is the range? Is it +/-9V? 0-9V? Something else? School me on this!

Information
After spending a few weeks on this project, I am proud to say it is successful. For posterity's sake, I did find that the effect worked very well over the range of about 5 - 500 mV, producing a nice range of filter frequencies. I'll post a new thread shortly with the completed project.
