Hi,

bought this cap a while ago in a guitar-shop for tone control in guitars.
I'm wondering what the specs are now...

it states

104J
2AOSQ

104J = 01uF 5%
The sq probably means that model is square(?)
The O might have something to do with temprature (-55/125 C)
But the 2A what does that mean has it got something to do with voltage??? Is 2A 2*100V= 200V???

Thank You

It looks as if this site agrees with me
But gives a Voltage of 100V

I think it's a 0.1uf cap.

Add four zeros after the 10 and you have 100,000 picofarads. Then you move the decimal over in threes to find out the microfarad value.

OOOPs Yes you are completely right...missed the "." there.

Thanks you think I'm right with the rest of the specs?

100,000 picofarads equals 100nanofarads.... :)

1 Farad = 1000 milifarads.
1 milifarad = 1000 microfarads.
1 microfarad = 1000 nanofarads.
1 nanofarad = 1000 picofarads.

Sorry, can't help you there. All I've ever needed to know was if I had a high enough voltage though. In these 9v circuits, I always try to have at least 16v caps, if not 25v.

Hope that helps.

I wanted to know if I could use this cap for a circuit tester.

The cap in there should be at least 50V...I've tried it and did not (yet?) fail...
