hi guys,
i entered this on the 10th anny contest on the other forum
the schematic is right, but at the time i built this circuit, i was dicking around trying to squeeze it on to a 10x10 piece of veroboard, so it's a little different from the schematic... on the schematic, it shows the "tweak" control as originally envisioned. unfortunately when i built this, i was out of 1m pots. the stock perc is 750k, escobedo's is 1m, so i made it in the original schem as a 500k pot with a 470k resistor on the collector side, and a 47k resistor on the base side of q2. so i used two 500k's in series, which gets the job done. it could be built any number of ways, the 1m pot lets you tweak it in a bit more, and should work well with the values in my schematic.
i think the "percolate" control is cool. it changes the 91k/100k c-ground resistor of the pnp q1 to a 100k pot. on the schematic, i made a mistake. oops. it should read 100k, not 50k.
anyways, the perc control is subtle, but lets you dial in the harmonics, and make 'em pop out some.
anyways, i believe the percolator control affects the gain of the pnp, and the tweak (aka focus) control affects the gain of the npn. nice simple addition, to me, it seems worthy. totally can change the reaction of the perc circuit.
so anyways... some pron
some gut shots
the obligatory schematic
the vero layout (again, this is slightly different from what i built)
the original video of the mod to the perc/jerk
and finally, the actual pedal put thru some paces.
rock the f**k on!!
the vid/audeo is outta sync, too.....arrrrgh
who needs LSD?

I'm so going to redraw this :) Thanks once again PJP for the tweaks!
You think something like 4,7K - 18K resistor from "Harmonics" lug 1 to ground would be ok? That wouldn't kill the signal when the pot is turned ccw.

hi miro, yah, put a resistor between the bottom lug ofthe pot and ground, you're good to go.
this sounds WAY BETTER thru a big amp... that was thru a dano hodad. put it thru my princeton and i was amazed... octave up/down simultaneously and all kindsa sick shit!!

hey miro,
can you pm me when you get a chance?
i'd like to ask a favor, maybe you could layout my toneblaste mk2.5 for me? my vero layout works and is verified, but it's way too damn long
to fit in the boxes i like... i am a huge fan of your amd IvIark's work, and would be very grateful for the help!!
thanks boss
one love

hey my friends,
i just wanted to hip you to a quick revision on the juergulator. i finally have a couple days off to mess with the circuit some.
i think i've improved on it... all the same sounds are in it, but it gets a bit more now.
here's the deets... swap out the 50k harmonics pot for a 10k... now the harmonics pot will be more useful, instead of all bunched up near the top, and you'll gain a little more balls. also, it lowers the input impedance significantly and makes the juerg way more friendly to guitar knob tweaking, like a fuzzface.
next up, take the "tweak" (or as i call it now, the "focus") pot and bump it up from 500k to 1 meg. you can go to TWO megs if you want to probably. this will make it much more obvious... almost like a tone or attack control... still subtle, but definitely more noticeable.
you can also try raising the percolate value to 250 or 500k most likely, tho i haven't tried yet.
this one i just finished is built to miro's excellent layout on tagboardeffects.
miro, i can't thank you enough.. really really groovy layout!!
i guess this makes it juergulator rev. 1 if you make the changes.
all pots linear
again, pnp ge russian mn25b, this one's hfe is 62
and a bc547, this time an hfe of 580.
i think we can call it done.
rock on, my brothers and sisters of diy
talk soon
peace

ok, final build.... 10k harmonix, 1m focus, and a switch between ge or si for q2
excuze the wankage
but this is a percolator like none you've seen yet. i promise.
