Dose anyone know the value of the inductor used in this mod? I think I remember reading somewhere that it is 1.5 henrys but I'm not sure.

Any luck finding the value? If not I could get the Mouser pt # off of the L if I can remember which axe it's in. :block:

I've still got my Torres pages from way back in the day - and it says right there 1.5h (henry) inductor.

I still have a couple hanging around in my parts bin.
But - I'm getting conflicting information. Mine are marked TL021

according to this page: http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/164201.pdf

TL021 is 4k not 1.5
and actually TL022 lists as 1.5 K not 1.5h ?

Isn't that the Varitone control that is some Gibson guitars, and in the Blueshawks?

Some information is gathered here:

Who else uses one of these?

I have one on my main Stratocaster, and I LOVE it. Really lets me help to control the tones from the guitar, on the fly.

Also, it can cop a quasi-acoustic texture, really easily.

Probably the best/most used mod I've done to any guitar.

So, does anybody else like this? Or, am I the only one?

I guess I am the only one! LOL

Years ago when was just into rewiring guitars, I was very interested in this, but discouraged by the quest for a right transformer coil. Will have to revisit this because I have that exact transformer in stock.

but it's not 1.5H, is it?

Hm. Inductance 1.5H is OK. . But what about inductor impedance?

A small bobin with iron will give a large impedance instead some ferrite inductor like wah inducotr. I see that varitone use inductor hidden in metal can, but I don't konw what type of bobin is there.

Also pulrec use ferrite core for their inductor, and this will give small impedance. And I think, that inductor with ferrite core with large AL is better for schematics like this.
For 1.5H I think that there are necessary about 300-400 turns max.

Hello,
i've just tried it with a TM018 http://www.mouser.com/catalog/specsheets/XC-600134.pdf 10k/10k xicon transformer.
inductance of the primary(same as secondary) is 3H( on my LCmeter)between external leads(10k) and 0.75H between center tap and an external lead(2k5, these impedance are average things like in any transformer).
so i made choke switchable between 3H/0.75H with the tone push/push pot and find that a value in between will be great something like...let say 1,5H!

Modman your xicon transformer have a 20K winding so it is 5K between center tap and one external lead, may be not so far from the 4K value listed 1.5H
when using primary let secondary unconnected(floating)
