Switch battery leads instead of neg. ground wiring?

is this ok to do with pnp transistors? Any drawbacks? Thanks.

If the pedal is using ICs (especially CMOS ones), it might be a problem...
Regarding to transistors, if you're building a fuzz face, try this: http://www.tonepad.com/getFile.asp?id=82, and don't bother with the ICs as there aren't any in it.
You'll see that there's a trick consisting of a jumper set to choose polarity... Maybe you should get inspuiration from that!
