can someone tell me the difference between the TL072 and the TL062??

the fact is that i'm modding a bit my Boss Flanger and i wanna change the 2 4558. i know a guy that as putted in a TL072 for IC1 and a TL062 for IC2.

What's the difference?

also i was thinking about 2 NE5532 instead, will those also work? do you think this is a better choise?

thank you

I think the 072 is a more "HI-FI" version of the 062. I havn't seen the schematic of the boss flanger in question but I would guess that one of those op amps is used as a lfo - there would be no point in changing this one as it isn't in the audio path... The NE5532 is a low noise opamp, I would change the opamp that is in the signal path to one of them.

The 062 draws less current, but IIRC it's noisier than the 072. If you need to worry about battery life use the 062.

Looking at that I'd change IC1 and IC2 to a NE5532 and leave IC5 as it is.

- TL062 is the low power version of the TL082.
- TL072 is the low noise version of the TL082.

So: the TL062 uses less power, but is more noisy than the TL072.

thank you too mayniac as well! this is what i was trying to know!

but i'll think now i'll go with 2 NE5532 (is right to think that the 5532 is better than the 072?)

Just woke up
Mayniac is correct, BUT, I always thought the 062 was a low current version of the 072, not the 082.
Because it is a lower current device, it is a lot smoother sounding when used in gain stages, due to the much lower slew rate at high frequencies.
James Demeter uses one in his Tremulator pedal, and it is a very low noise and very smooth sounding unit.
With regards to the NE5532 - it draws considerably more current than even the 072 and 082 devices - your battery will last 10 times longer with the 062 device :!: , also, they are not a high impedance input device like the TLxxx devices - I am not a great fan of them - they can be very useful as line drivers though, due to their ability to drive 600 ohm loads with ease  . I hate them used as microphone input stages though - they make everything sound flat and sterile due to their low impedance damping of the input signal
cheers

the current isn't a problem for me, 'cause i always use an adapter for all my pedals.

you personally what do you think is better now in my case?

I'm of the same opinion, tried recharging alkaline 9Vs with mixed success. How can you justify paying so much money on batteries for the reliabilty that they provide?

A lot of guitarist stick to them, I know, but you really want to unscrew that hammond box? On a Boss it's real easy! I've read serious people swearing by them as well, but personally never had problems with adaptors.

All 061 are soundwise total crap, but they draw only 1/10 of the current of a 071. The Boss flanger sucks a battery out in 2 hours even with the 061s in it.

I would replace all 061 with TI TL071 and run the pedal with a 9/10V DC-supply.

Personally, I like batteries but, part of that is being old-school!
NE5532, never heard them in anything that really sounded good to my ears......kinda "sterile" to me?

I've had good results with the OPA2604

I disagree here - unless you demand too much voltage gain from them - under 10db gain (3x) they are fine to my ears.

I agree here, BUTthey do make good line level drivers when run off +/- 15v (or higher) supplies.

it is a case of "horses for courses"

ok then i'll put in 2 TL072 and make it over like that!

thank you all
