Hi community,
I've successfully build my own PCB of the Xotic EP Booster Clone. Here is the build instruction manual if you are interested in:

You can order this PCB by sending me a pm.

Regards & keep on rockin'!

Hi,

Today i've tried this layout, but could not succeed.

Image

I've used:

- 100uf 25v caps
- 10uf 50v caps
- Q2: Couldnt find 2n5088 and tried "BC239" and "2SC1815" but didn't work.

Has anyone tried this layout? Is it really "verified"?

harald has a very good reputation re his layouts. i would initially assume he wouldn't label it verified unless it was. had a quick look at the original page and notice freppo (who posts here) also built it with success, and he also knows his stuff. worth checking the original post for any updates or mods to the schematic just in case it has any idiosyncrasies.
http://www.sabrotone.com/?p=3186
http://www.sabrotone.com/?attachment_id=3185
and back through this thread in case subs for 2n5088 are suggested for this layout.

but i would say get some 2n5088 transistors (as specified by the layout's designer) before suspecting the layout might be out. i know it's a drag when you want to build and not wait for bits to arrive, but if it was specified as 2n5088 i would give that a go first.

i think all your caps should be 16v+ (as specified) if you intend to run it up to 18v. i haven't built this but have i built the ep3 18v pre at guitar fx layouts, but they are two kinds of the same thing (echioplex 3 pre).

good luck with it. they are nice things.

You know both of those replacements have different pinouts to the 5088 shown on the layout?

@tabbycat

First of all thanks for the reply.

I've re-checked the layout but everything seems ok.

I guess i'll try another schem/layout. It's really disturbing to try to find the problem with this. Building a new one seem easier :)

@Nocentelli

Thanks for the reply.

I've tried all the combinations, but no success :(

@ mecast

this is the ep3 pre i built. there are various version here from basic to basic plus. xotic is just a twist on this.

http://tagboardeffects.blogspot.co.uk/2 ... llman.html

sometimes sticking with something and thrashing it out is worth it for the learning you get out of it. what you learn from that battle applies elsewhere henceforth, so good value.
but i've also had ones where the battle took more out of me than it was probably worth and i may have been wiser to walk away and start again.

it's your call. you know how much frustration you can put up with in return for what you may gain.

best of luck.

tabbycat.

Hello All.
I'm reading this thread third time and still can't understand.
The is 2n5457 - is this a confirmed original value? or it is deducted based on parameters and voltages?

Does anybody know how the +3db/unity gain switch is implemented in the v2? I guess adding a resistor in series with the pot instead of the 100uF in parallel with the 10uF cap would do the trick, but don't know for sure and would need the value of the resistor.

Here's the V2. The +3dB is kind of ridiculous... they added a series resistor in-line with the output that reduces the volume by 3dB, then added a switch to bypass it. So the +3dB setting is the same as the V1, and the new feature is that you can turn that setting off.

awwwh what a missed opportunity... wouldn't it be cool to have a whacky scheme instead that connects the unused half of the pot (dc blocked + limited) over the drain resistor? probably changes sound but rool of cool beats that right fellas?
