If you like fairy tales about Carbon comp resistors and so on you should go here:
http://www.dominocs.com/Library/FUZZbrite/index.html

If you are ready to face the reality you should look at this:

To avoid confusions:
As you can see in the guts this is August 2007 production

The noise from the tape deck was only drowned out by the buzz from the wine.

Well... at least the price isn't outrageous. I don't see the point gooping it since it's supposed to be a remake of the Fuzzrite - anyone could just reverse a Fuzzrite and know the circuit. Maybe they do it so they wouldn't have to bother with a circuit board.
I think the sound clips sounded awful. Is that what a Fuzzrite sounds like? If it is, then I'm absolutely never ever going to be interested in that. It sounds completely unusable to me. I've gotten almost exactly that sound before..... from amps.... before I had any idea what I was doing. Why would anyone intentionally have a sound like that? There's nothing mojo about it - it's just gross noise. You don't need to painstakingly recreate an old circuit to get that sound - it's pretty easy to make something that sounds like shit. You could throw just about any combination of two or three transistors together and get something that'll do that.

I guess that song shows how much the mix covers up the splatteryness. I bet they sound like total noise if you try playing a chord through them. I suppose if all you're playing is single note lines it works if you're wanting to do a 60's sounding thing. It reminds me of a Foxx Tone Machine in octave mode.

I've used the Tone Machine on top of other effects before to get this sound like an explosion when I hit the strings. Fun for an effect, but not what I'd consider to be any kind of great sound.

Personally, I prefer the Orpheum Fuzz...it's in the same "family" as the Fuzzrite, but in my opinion, has a more usable range of fuzztones.

A lot of stupid guitar players of punk and garage bands used/use the Fuzzrite. Nearly an impossible mission to sell a Orpheum clone to them.

The blop looks like it's Prestolite car putty, I protect my first build with that stuff and it's a very good protection.

He once posted in the "For Sale" area at Aron's that the FuzzRite schematics we had were wrong and he had the only "right" schematic.

Not the best way to make friends- or sales- on a DIY forum.

The schematic above is for the first Ge-version where only 200 were produced. After that came the (ungooped) version with 2 silicon-transistors (TZ82 ?) and 4 x 470k resistors (about 20.000) and after that came the brown gooped module which was made by spraque:

As far as I remember at the beginning Ashbass was claiming to use this original brown modules.... ???

"Mr. Ashbass" himself is selling an original Mosrite Fuzzrite (ungooped version):

https://cgi.ebay.com/Mosrite-FUZZrite-p ... dZViewItem

If this is one of the units which he copied, then you will find in his ugly goop the 4x 470k version..... and not as he claims the "cracked" module version:
The pedal is modeled after the original design as shown below with the fuzzbrite on the left and an original FUZZrite on the right. According to Ed Sanner, about 20,000 pedals had the encapsulated circuit. Mine is exact to the original pedals and since no online schematic is correct about what all is in an original Fuzzrite, I keep the facts to myself. Regardless, the pedal sounds great.

He could at least have gooped it to the volume pot.

I guess I'm of the opinion of "who gives a sh*t?!?" It's a Fuzzrite- a notoriously awful sounding fuzz from the past that most people have forgotten about for good reason. I suppose any of us could painstakingly recreate the look, sound, feel, and smell of a turd with similar results...

I'm with Martin, no need for a "secret recipe" here- there are a multitude of ways you could get this ugly sound.

And what is that he wrapped his "blob" in- masking tape? What a mess...
