Answering your request,, Here is my show and tell
Rather than bore you all to death with my opinions and ramblings which I'm sure will end up in confusion, I'll post my circuits then you can make your own decisions about which way to go. There are no clever tricks just careful experimentation and learning where tone is won and lost.

My DDC cab sim can be found in an old *Nobels SST* (a little headphone rockman styled rig from years back).
I believe the schematics are still on the Nobels site for free Dload.
The first schematic is the FPV floor unit which has an A/B split out.

Clean FPV > Para loop > graphic > Amp.

OD switches the FPV preamp through > DDC and Cab Sim > Para loop > Graphic > Amp

The Main Amp is an old Laney keyboard amp,,, not much to write about there. The FPV concept unit is of course inspired by the *Mesa Vtwin* which has a fantastic clean sound but I never liked the dirty stuff.

So simply by switching in the DDC in series *After* the big Valve boost gave me the missing sustain.

The Valve bit complicates a simple pedal build but the results are definitely worth the extra effort. I had lift off [smilie=a_happyme.gif] .
I did have it working with all SS frontend but you can't get as much sustain happening without adding masses of noise,,, AND I HATE Noise.

Circuit Noise side note;
Just played a jam on Sunday and a chap turned up with his Brand New Line 6 wizzbang Amp and sound wise it was quite nice. But the NOISE/HISS And buzz,,, OH how sad!! It was really bad.

Anyway just giving you some ideas to help fertilize some thought.
You may even come up with something far better than this. Heck it's really just a hobby for me and I'm no expert,, just a humble guitar player who refused to spend a fortune on BS gear that could never deliver.
So I went out and learned to build my own.

Oh yeah I should comment the guitar is ascheapas you can get,, a strat copy with ceramic PU's.
The PU's can be purchased for $15 ea.

Cheers, Phil.

Our KMG has another one on his site, this one is based the circuitry in the Marshall JMP-1 19" MIDI Preamp: Speaker simulator (JMP1)

Ok Just thought I'd add a few points to keep in mind before you get lost in the maze of teckno babble.

Ask yourselves this Q?

What do all these complex systems actually Do? Or; What do they All have in common?

If you are are like me and sick of getting lost with wordy advertizing brochures that claim to deliver some rare and unobtainable tone mojo you will eventually realize that almost all of these devices simply alter the friggin TONE.

DING!
I may never fully understand the vastly complex but I've been around the block a few times.

I've found from my many expeditions into this stuff it is actually a lot simpler to use more than one tone control system.

I very much doubt that ANY cab sim on it's own will instantly turn a Roland JC 120 into an ACDC concert. (and Yes I have met kids who actually believe that the acquisition of some brand name gizmo will do such things)

You build tone shapes, one shape imposed into the next stage which may have a completely different shape. Common logic tells one that the combinations are endless but there are some basic observations that can be made.

It has already been said by better minds than mine,,, read this; http://www.amptone.com/truesecretofamptone.htm
(all text and a bit wordy but the message is clear, to me at least)

Don't worry about the Load box Attenuator stuff ,,
just get into the Head space of what is happening with complex circuits.
**Pedals and such (on there own) don't and will likely never deliver stunning results.**

Every time you ADD something you have to Reset/Readjust the Tone shaping.

Notice my circuit path has; Input > HiZ Tone shaping before distortion > Then Dist > Cabsim >
*But it ALSO passes through a graphic before passing to > the main Amp.*
My graphic is simply an old unwanted Tandy branded hifi unit ,, cost me $8.

Adding the dedicated HiZ tone stack **BEFORE** distortion makes a massive massive difference to the control and feel of the distortion.
>>> Notice how nearly all the stomp boxes have any tone shaping **AFTER** dist circuitry??? :hmmm:

If you already have a very good sound and you simply want to add cab sim for recording then you may have some luck with a dedicated sim but to my mind it does rather limit your options. Whereas I like to have access to a lot of different options.
---

Adding This also, It may help you understand how darn easy it is to loose the mojo.
If you run through digital stuff expect a lot of hi freq to be added even with cab sims. I do use DDelay but it runs on a side chain path so the original analog sound is never compromised.

The JTM Cam sim is very good (albeit a tad noisy with high gain stuff) but it does depend on where and how you use them.
i.e, The Cabsim in front of my old Quadraverb did little,,,(even useless) But inserted After Qverb reaped very impressive results.

I built and sold a few of those JTM boxes to some local recording geeks and One such chap commented;
"Man I'm in heaven, I never realized that too much bandwidth trashes good OD guitar tracks."

So yes Digital EFx might open doors but beware of the pitfalls.

Anyway toss it around.
Have fun, Phil.

I completely agree with you,i always said that ,your really characteristic sound proceeds from your distortions boxes collection ,the eq stage and the amp .the speaker and cabinet simulator are for emulate only the speaker that you like (celestion)and the cabinet with a particular speaker arrangement(1X12,2X12,4X10,ETC).i don't like emulate with digital stuff because there are sampling sounds and digital modulated.

many guys are influenced by the media articles about the last and best preamp or speaker emulator,as says our friend phil.
All previous posts were left without means and conclusive solutions.
and then i decided to post this topic.
i think ,why do not join forces to make our own fsb guitar preamp and speaker , cabinet simulator?
our friend phil said,HiZ Tone shaping and the eq resets are part of the success. let begin for something like that.
remember this must be analog and purely to learn and share, and the solution is not digital pedals

This is true. In fact, I was checking the frosting Dimebag Darrell and realized that his mojo with their transistor Randall was just two eq: The blue graph MXR 6-band & parametric Furman PQ3-4, this gave a hi-gain warm sound.

mr lobo in english please
but is what I'm saying,we are to learn from all who want to collaborate in developing this.
for example I'm good in developing the pcb, maybe other in software that recreate and compare the response curves etc
is for those about be part of this [smilie=18_13_1.gif]
