Boss - PH-1r ( Phaser ) [schematic]
The Boss PH-1r schematic is now up at GEO (http://www.geofex.com).
Many thanks to those who helped and offered help in extracting this one. In the end it was a combination of top/bottom shots from the net and the gracious assistance of Ry Hoffman that got this done.

I know it's an older post but nevertheless RG's work enabled me to fix one of these in some 15 minutes. Thanks RG!
No, but a few good high res photos of the component and trace side of the board and answering a few component questions would get it for you.KHELSTROM wrote:Does anyone have a schematic for the original 2 knob version PH-1? I have one in for a repair.

Not sure how this is gonna help. Just want to share what is on my hand.
These photos are snapped from MIJ - Jan 84's. (SN:389400).
Slightly different chips brand compared the the earlier units as shared by modman.
High resolution image can be email upon request (~4.4M per pcs).
Enjoy.

I have one of these open on my workbench if anyone wants more pics. Mine only works while the footswitch is held down, so I am tracing out the flip flop area.

Hey! I want to make a copy of this pedal, I'm thinking about put it into a hammond-type enclosure... so my question is, what's the size of the PCB? which hammond-like box would fit to the pcb?

oK, it's time to open for first time a boss pedal, not for having to guess that much

Nice post guys - some great info on a great sounding pedal!
I recently picked up a PH-1 - but it has a fault which I`m hoping to fix with a little help
Simply put is that when either on or off the signal running through has an element of distortion noise, esp when I twang a low E. Its a fuzzy buzzy noise, not over the top but strong enough to be noticed. If I play softly its ok, but otherwise pretty useless as it ruins the bypass signal and phased signal.
Any ideas? I`ve resoldered the AC jack connections and given the jacks a clean. A suggestion has been a dry Cap somewhere. Can I find and isolate with a multimeter? (excuse my technical ignorance! )
Would love to get this one working again, any help is really appreciated!

If it's a PH-1 phaser, it will distort when used with a high output pickup. Boss changed the gain structure inside the pedal so that the later PH-1r has a voltage-dividing stage that halves the signal level being phased by the JFET's, and boosts the signal back up again at the output.fuzzbuzzfuzz wrote:Simply put is that when either on or off the signal running through has an element of distortion noise, esp when I twang a low E. My PH-1 sounds exquisite with "vintage" style single coils or low-output humbuckers, but has a buzzy / farty low frequency distortion with high output pickups. My PH-1r sounds cleaner and slightly brighter, but will still distort with a big chord smash from a high output pickup.
You might be better off looking for a PH-1r, unless you use very high output pickups, in which case it might be best to look for a phaser that doesn't use JFET's.
