hi everybody,

does anybody have a schematic of the maxon/ibanez af-9 ? i´m curious to see how it differs from the mutron. i know there is an afl schematic, but are they the same (with the omitting of the hp setting on the afl) ?

cheers,
lohstah

Let's put it like this:
Since some 2 months I finally have a AF9. It is on my tracing wishlist. No ETA though.
Sorry. Plain out of planes.

Any news on this one Dirk?

I got one of these couple of weeks ago. Sounds really good. I'm wondering if it's closer to AFL or MXR Envelope Filter...

Strange. I would have sworn I traced this one ages ago. Not...

But to answer your question,
Closer to the AFL.

And please check all (3 if I remember correct) 47/6.3V electolits for leakage (blackening traces under them are easiest way to tell) and replace em.
Sorry. Plain out of planes.

Thanks for the tip! I took some photos of the box, in and out, but didn't check anything too closely.
Some notes on my unit:

Why on earth there are 6,3V caps in there :)

Hi Folks, I have a vintage Ibanez AF-9 Auto-Filter and it makes a squeeling noise that almost sounds like a feedback when the effect is engaged.
What could that be?
I could´t find a Schematic for it, but I have another one for the AFL which I guess from the ibanez product history must be the same circuit...

Thanks in advance...

The AF9 never was traced? We are getting old, folks!
It's one of the best sounding auto wahs of all time, and it's not even very complex...

I found a lot of pedals that seem to be identical:

Ibanez AFL
Ibanez AF9
Maxon AF9 (reissue)
Ibanez AF201
Maxon AF201
Maxon AF-01
Maxon AF-F1 "Fireblade"

Maybe there are even more, with other brand names?

A clone of the AF9 with the (switchable) distortion circuit of the AW7 would be the perfect auto wah!

Replace in your AF9 what would be C28 and c29. The electrolit on the bias supply dividers.
