We should do a bunch of updated layouts for the circuit boards to accommodate current opamps, instead of those ones you can't get any more.

Agreed
Nothing really special about the IC is there? http://www.datasheetarchive.com/img/pdf1.gif

I thought I saw the Super Tone Controll redone but can't seem to find it.

There are a few CA PCB layouts at General Guitar Gadgets.
They all have modern IC pin outs.
The super tone control is one of them.

By the way, The STC is a very nice Hi,low, band pass filter and does a nice wah filter when it's set up with a foot controled pot.

Thanks John! I knew I saw some of them before
http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/ind ... &Itemid=26

Also some from DIY Projects for Guitars :D http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/ind ... &Itemid=26

The SuperTone controll layout is still for oddball quad op RC or XR 4136 IC's but NTE997 should work, well at least the pinout is the same.

:hmmm: I know if I posted links to the schematics I've redrawn elsewhere, I would be chastised to no end and probably banned. Some of those layouts like the Metronome, Super Tone Controll and others are EXACT COPIES of the original PCB artwork from the book. Actually it's worse than that, they are copies less the original designers info  Where is Jay when you need him [smilie=a_chuckle.gif]

Even with schematics and layouts posted I would still recomend getting the book. You really need it to know what the intent of the designs were. The Ultra Fuzz for example is not your typical overloaded transistor or opamp type of fuzz. Don't build it if you are expecting it to do something you have heard before because you will be very disapointed.

I really hope that posting these schematics will actually draw more attention to the book!

Me too - I think it's a great book and well worth having, especially for novices.

The Ultra-Fuzz is interesting - a square wave comparator fuzz. I haven't built that one, but I did build an earlier version of a comparator fuzz he designed that just used a single 741. I think the design in the Ultra-Fuzz gives better control over the gating action than the older circuit did. I'll have to give it a try, because I liked how that older one sounded.
