Here are links to sites that I have used most. There are many other excellent sites and I will keep adding them as I have time to learn from them. Cruising the internet can be kind of random and my list reflects that randomness. I have grouped the sites into three sections: DIY, Electronics Supply, and Electronics Theory.
DIY
| DIYstompboxes |
Aron Nelson hosts a forum where I have received lots of help. His site is full of information that I read frequently, especiallyhis FAQ, mods, and debugging pages. And I have purchased components like commonly used transistors and3PDT switches from his store. |
| GEOFEX |
I have learned more from R.G. Keen than anyone else. His articlesare posted on this site and R.G. is a huge contributor to Aron’s forum. |
| hammer.ampage |
Well, maybe I have learned more from Mark Hammer than anyone else. I’m not sure and it doesn’t matter. 😉 This is Mark’s site. |
| basic audio |
John Lyons’ site has several unique and useful tutorials. John is a consummate craftsman and I find his work inspiring. |
| GeneralGuitarGadgets |
J.D. Sleep runs a circuit board and boutique pedal business on GeneralGuitarGadgets. But he
also hosts schematics, layouts, and some excellent beginner information that helped me get started. |
| tonepad |
Francisco Peña also sells circuit boards on his excellent site. I use his site frequently for his fine library of schematics and several clear, illustrated tutorials. But much more is available there. |
| Analog Alchemy |
Joe Davisson has designed some circuits that I think are very cool. His stuff is elegant, instructive, and rocks. |
| AMZ-FX |
A source of instructive and original circuits and articles. |
ELECTRONICS SUPPLY
| Small Bear |
I buy from Small Bear because the service is personal, the prices are good, and Steve Daniels is serving the DIY community. |
| Mouser |
I find Mouser has the most stuff, good prices, nice website, and speedy delivery. |
| Circuit Specialists, Inc. |
Peter Snowberg turned me on to Circuit Specialists for my soldering iron. Since then I have gone back to them for other supplies and tools. |
| Allied Electronics |
Occasionally, I need to get something here. Also fast and reliable. |
| Digikey |
Also, an occasional place I buy because Small Bear or Mouser doesn’t have what I want. |
ELECTRONICS THEORY
| All About Circuits |
This is one version of an E-Book written by Tony R. Kuphaldt that I have found useful. Several people have recommended it on Aron’s forum. I have learned a lot from it. Currently this version is maintained by members of a forum for suggesting changes. |
| eCircuit Center |
This SPICE website is also a good introduction to electronics because there are SPICE simulations to go with the material. |
| Naval Electronic Engineering Training Series (NEETS) |
Occasionally, this has been a helpful alternative source to Kuphaldt’s book. |
