Re: First Time Member...Help with wiring up a Newmarket Transistor amplifier circuit
I'd like to add that it's wasn't accurate for them to call it a "Deacy" amp. The Deacy amp circuit uses two small transformers: one to drive the push-pull output transistors, and the other is the output transformer. You see this alot in old transistor radios. If I had this, first thing I'd...

I can tell you from experience that you can solder the 880 to the footprint for a SOT-23, but you have to be very careful. Don't sneeze on it.

Re: BOSS DS-1W waza craft [schematic] [schematic]
Thank you for your work! An early birthday present for me! :D It's exciting to see 2SK880 being used in a commercial guitar pedal. This is the first time I've seen it used in a pedal outside of my own designs. I started using them a few years ago when 2SK117 became impossible to get, and I really li...

Re: Fake 6l6gc's
Yo! I have the "Mullard" version of these! "Factory matched" pair in original boxes. I got them in the late 90's from a hi-fi shop in Chicago I used to work at - they were just hanging out in the stock room and looked pretty old even then. The boss was not a big tube fan, so we d...

Re: Maxon - PH-350 Rotary Phaser
Sorry, I had taken these photos back in 2009 when I had worked on one of these to modify it for true bypass. Completely forgot about it.
I didn't take any photos of the board with the controls, sorry.

Re: Harley Benton - PA100 Power Attenuator [schematic]
Something that I don't like at all in the PA100 and what I don't like is that the volume for the line output is the same as that of the attenuator, that is, the attenuator is at 1 and the line volume potentiometer is at 10. .. listen with very little volume connecting it to a sound card. I mean, I ...

Re: Ammo Can Reactive Load
UPDATE: I found why the transformer was reversing the polarity. The mistake was in the schematic drawing from Edcor. The diagram they provided showed Pin 5 being Hot and in 7 being ground, but it is actually supposed to be the opposite of this. I will update my schematic with the correct pin numbers...

Re: Cili War Big Muff clone - pedal dies and produces weird static noises
Does it get better or worse if you wiggle the transistors in their sockets? The synth noise when you roll down the drive is going to be some kind of oscillation. Oscillations in high gain pedals are nearly always caused by layout issues. You said it wasn't making that sound when it was outside the b...

Re: Ammo Can Reactive Load
Got to thinking, A good budget approach, or at least easy if you don't want to start from scratch, could be to mod a prebuilt cheap attenuator, like a Harley Benton PA-100, with the reactive parts? But i guess it could be hard to fit? Problem is there's no reactive parts in that thing. The inductor...

Re: Harley Benton - PA100 Power Attenuator [schematic]
Interesting conversation about the HB Pa 100, I just received one, I opened it, and the first question I ask myself is, is it possible to increase its power, I mean, if now it only supports 100w, ok. How to modify it so that it supports more power? For example: if I connect a 200 or 300w amplifier,...

Re: Ammo Can Reactive Load
Back to the attenuator. I found the Edcor transformer is the cause of both the reversed phase and the distortion at low frequencies. That's a bummer. I checked and double-checked that my wiring on the transformer was correct - it must be a matter of them having wired the pins wrong. I don't know wha...

Re: Preventing audio bleed in a stereo output
Looks like what I suggested won't work, because you have both channels sharing the same ICs. Each channel would need to have its own for what I suggested.
And maybe sharing the same ICs amongst both channels is the cause of your problem in the first place.

Re: Ammo Can Reactive Load
Remember electrons flow to the Highest voltage potential. :hmmm: Any power Valve would burn through the screen rapidly if the Plate voltage ever falls lower than Screen voltage. As the amp is old the plate pin might be arcing across the socket somewhere which will pull plate voltage down. And I wou...

Re: Preventing audio bleed in a stereo output
If you insert a simple RC filter in series with the power going to each preamp, this could decouple the two channels from one another well enough to stop the problem. I would try a 150ohm resistor with 100uF electrolytic cap to ground. You'd split the line coming from the power and feed each channel...

Re: Ammo Can Reactive Load
Oh dear, As the Amp has already had Screen grid issues then the sockets may have hair line carbon traces (which you can't see) and once that happens it's likely the new tubes will arc again along the same path, in which case it's a Socket replacement. Also worth note is that EL34's are notorious fo...

Re: Preventing audio bleed in a stereo output
Does each preamp have it's own power filtering/decoupling? It might be the signals are getting mixed together via the power circuit. More filtering and decoupling can solve that if that's the cause.

Traynor YVM-1 Issues
I'm feeling reassured that the Ammo Can load wasn't responsible for my amp blowing a tube. I stuck another set in there (EL34s this time), rebiased, checked all voltages, etc... Biased at 70% dissipation, I ran a sine wave directly into the phase inverter and got a very nice clean symmetrical since ...
