Line6 stomp switch tip

I have done a few of the stomp switch repairs for people on the Line6 DL4 over the years. There are some folks out there selling kits to remove the springloaded stomp switch, remote the tactile switch on the PCBs, and wire up & mount some more robust NO switches. After seeing what the actual pro...

Re: Debugging a Line6 DL4. Help needed!

Thanks for the backup gentlemen! Microsurgery performed on the MAX887 swap, and now have blinking LED's and no components heating up!

I did check the surrounding caps before hand. Thank you. However the tantalum 2.2uF looked hokey so I replaced it just to be certain.

Re: Debugging a Line6 DL4. Help needed!

Ahh good to know, thank you. The Max887 should be here Friday. I'll test the caps out beforehand. Also will order up a Max660 if that does not do the trick. Thank you!

Re: Debugging a Line6 DL4. Help needed!

Sorry to revive an old thread. However I'm having the same issue and I suspect it's my MAX887 as well. All the diodes D11, D12, D15 & D16 test out fine. C40 was bulged out and did not test out accurately, so I replaced it. This leads me to believe something other than the proper 9VAC power suppl...

Re: Help w/ Joyo Ultimate Octave

In simple terms, it's a nasty goo that helps draw away impurities (in our case, solder) when heat is applied. :) Most electronics stores have it. Some hardware stores have it too.

Re: Help w/ Joyo Ultimate Octave

I offered this above. Good luck! "Regarding desoldering: a little fresh solder, a little flux, and using desoldering braid (letting it sit directly on the component legs for and extra 5 seconds) makes this a breeze. I did the two caps and both LEDs in 15 minutes. (You don't even have to remove ...

No I did not know that, so I'm glad you posted that. I would like to try some of those!

Me too.

To make life easy I'd pull the old ones and replace with new, non-polarised electrolytic capacitors.
Yeah but 10uF isn't gonna fit the bill. :)

Re: Help w/ Joyo Ultimate Octave

I also can confirm this. Just bought the Voodoo Octave and the caps are backwards. I did put new caps in though (instead of rotating old ones) because electrolytic caps form when current is applied. If the results work, they work, but I'd think best practice would be to put new ones in. Regarding de...

My thoughts exactly. Goop has become the signature of the builder whose only skill is marketing.
Oh that's so awesome! Think of the possibilities of gooping the outside of the pedal!!! You could make a KILLING!

Re: Really Cheap Compressor [documentation]

You can also increase the input series resistor (220k). It will increase the input impedance and lower the gain of the first stage. Should help to get rid of the nasty clipping. And check the chip voltages, all inputs and outputs (1,2,3,5,6,7) should be at about Vsupply/2. Good point. I didn't even...

Re: Really Cheap Compressor [documentation]

Sorry to dig up this old one, but I've been trying to play this clean and it has a nasty distortion to it. Even with the sustain all the way down, it's unpleasant. Of course it happens when I pick hardest. I made some comment a while back about decreasing the input cap, which did help. But if I decr...

Re: Really Cheap Compressor [documentation]

I hadn't played with this much since after I built it. Yesterday I was looking for a comp to put in front of my Guv'nor-type circuit I've been working on, and the CS-2 just didn't sound right on it. So I grabbed this one and Wham-O, what a GREAT sound I had. Very, very good compression and harmonics...

Re: Compression Sustainer

You're welcome tol!!! I'm just glad I could help, really. I didn't want to include the clipping, and the tweaks were to my liking.

I think a J201 works just fine, but the MPF102 gave me a little bit cleaner headroom.

Re: asian metal film resistor kits on ebay?

I bought this one about 6 weeks ago or so???? https://cgi.ebay.com/Metal-Film-Resistor-Kit-2000-Pcs-50-Value-5-1-4W-/220688074020?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item336208c524#ht_1973wt_994 I'm happy with it, but the leads are little flimsy. That's getting more common anyway nowadays, but it's a gre...
