Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]
That's probably true if you use the resistor values he supplies with them, but they work well and sound good if you just slap a 100k trimmer on Q2C and tune for 7.5V +/- with rest at stock values.

Wish I did. Keep meaning to buy one, but it just hasn't happened yet. Have never been able to find either on the net.LucifersTrip wrote:Do you have a schematic or gut shot?

Re: Death by Audio - Fuzz War [traced]
I've been messing around with this on the breadboard using analog guru's posted schematic for the early seven transistor version. I also breadboarded the later four transistor version, and while it too is also cool, they do not sound the same. Regardless, I corrected the orientation of the transisto...

I'm thinking water thin superglue is your best bet. Carefully applied it will be a strong repair and not very visible.

Re: Sola Sound - Tone Bender Mark I (1965) [schematic]
Congrats! Two questions. Is that milliamps or microamps? And, I was under the impression stock collector resistor for Q2 was 470k? I thought the 180k was a modification David Main does to make biasing easier. I seem to remember photos of the few original units out there all show a 470k...but its ear...

Try more leakage in Q2. Don't be afraid of A LOT of leakage there.

Re: Mosrite - Fuzzrite [schematic]
The SK3003 happened to be a bit lower leakage than your average 2N2613. The 2N408 was pretty average.

Re: Mosrite - Fuzzrite [schematic]
It occurred to me I fell back into a bad habit...dropping the negative sign on those voltages I listed. Sorry about that, consider them implied....negative source, positive ground.

Re: Mosrite - Fuzzrite [schematic]
Thanks for the info on the transistors. Could you please share some leakage on them transistors or collector voltages with them in circuit? I have tried some different transistors and depending on leakage and gain I have 0.2-4V on q1 and 0.3-1V on q2. I'm trying to get some spirit in the sky tones....

Some new sets added and price drop…want to move these! For sale, audited trios of NOS Mullard AC-128K germanium PNP transistors for Tonebender Professional MKII circuit (OC75 version)…they can, of course, also be used in Tonebender Mk1 or any other fuzz you may want to try. I think they sound quite...

I would bet Steve uses the method described in the GeoFX "Selecting transistors for a fuzz face" article. Or something very close to it.

Re: Mosrite - Fuzzrite [schematic]
A lot of what I've read on gain advice for the Ge Fuzzrite simply doesn't match my own personal real world experience with the transistors they used. The RCA 2N2613 from that era nearly always measure well over 120 hfe (corrected) and 2N408's typically average around high 80's low 90's. Now, I will ...

Re: Maestro - FZ-1 [schematic]
Looking at this again I realize I made a serious error I need to point out. Should have not relied as much on memory and more on my notes. Hopefully a MOD will fix it at some point. The fix: "I set the Attack pot on MINIMUM and adjust the trimmer till I'm getting between 0.2 and 0.3 volts on th...

Re: Maestro - FZ-1 [schematic]
Thanks fuzzfiend! :D The silicon transistor is a 2N3906 I use for power isolation (emitter follower again) and is part of a charge pump (7660SCL) and voltage regulator (LM337) circuit to give me -3 volts with respect to ground to power this beast. I dislike batteries so set up all my old positive gr...
