Re: WEM - Project V [schematic]

The former owner of mine recalled using 8.4v Mallory batteries with it. The metal clasps for the batteries in this model are a size smaller than is usually fitted in early British effects (thus don't accomodate a PP4) and the fixed battery terminals screwed into the enclosure are exactly the right d...

Re: Vox - V816 Distortion Booster: GE an SI versions! [schematic]

Thank you Electric Warrior for the schematic and nightraven for the photos. (And modman for starting the thread.) But i'm a little confused when comparing the EW schematic to the nr photos: - There appears to be a 100k resistor in the photos, but that value is not in the schematic. - Also, the blue...

What are the transistors
They're STC ASY50 transistors. I had a go at drawing up the schematic but got frustrated and gave up. After more than 10 years collecting vintage pedals, I'm still hopeless on the technical side of things. Electric Warrior did the detective work on this one.

Re: JMI Vox - Grey Wah c. 1967

On another note, does anyone know if there is a axle tension bar under the treadle on the original 'Grey Wahs', as these volume pedals do not, and seem to rely only on the pot friction, cant find any pictures that show it online, but it looks like originally there was a battery clip which may bolt ...

Re: Zonk Machine - middle transistor is silicon ??? trim pot

According to the article and catalog pages picutured, the Zonk Machine and Zonk II were being sold concurrently at first, with the Zonk II being a much cheaper pedal. I guess at one point they simply discontinued the Zonk Machine? From what I understand they made the Zonk II well into the 70's. I'v...

Re: Zonk Machine - middle transistor is silicon ??? trim pot

? I pulled the pots, but no date codes. If there are photos of others with pots dating to 1968, I assume these were the final version of the Zonk before they moved on to the Zonk II? Possibly. The turret board version of the Zonk is pretty late too. The guy that had it before me is a very talented ...

Re: Zonk Machine - middle transistor is silicon ??? trim pot

These 'hybrid' Zonks have 2N4061's. Same part can be found in other Hornby boxes from the time. Including this one, I've got photos of 7 surviving 'hybrid' Zonks so far. Date codes on the pots in these pedals places them at 1968 at the earliest.

Re: Mystery Pedal

Looks a lot like one of those Sekova wedges. They were pumped out with all sorts of different brand names on so it's not surprising that this one doesn't say anything at all.
This pedal looks more or less the same thing.

Re: FAKE: Sola Sound - Tone Bender Mark 1.5 (1966)

Oops, Chris Nelson bought a MK1.5 from Music Ground but the transistors needed replacing? That's the sort of thing he really ought to inform potential buyers about on Reverb in writing rather than with one mistakenly included photo of the pedal with its new parts, in and amongst the photos of it in ...

Re: FAKE: Sola Sound - Tone Bender Mark 1.5 (1966)

The electronics that are in the pedal now are certainly not fake. For whatever reason they were swapped with this pedal: https://i.imgur.com/jJZJmFP.jpg https://i.imgur.com/yhcFvOH.jpg https://i.imgur.com/mVejhb8.jpg But yeah, in the highly unlikely case that someone browsing this forum felt incline...

Re: Sola Sound - Tone Bender Mark 1.5 (1966)

That's become a bit of a Frankenstein pedal thanks to those cunts in Hollywood who have been advertising it. They harvested the electronics, and presumably the knobs too, from another unit. This is what it looked like when they originally bought it on eBay: https://i.imgur.com/zFXpLI6.jpg https://i....

Carlsbro - Fuzz Box 1966(?)

This forum's kinda slow, huh? Did you run out of vintage pedals to reverse, clone etc? I scored this off eBay a few months ago. The previous owner said he bought it in 1966, which I thought was rather early, so I opened it up yesterday to see if the date codes on the pots disputed that. It seems to b...

I guess it's either the same on the other side, or nothing at all. Otherwise I'd have taken a picture of that as well. I seem to remember some confusion about this capacitor a while ago.

Thanks for the nice pictures. The only still unanswered question is: what is written on that brown ceramic capacitor beside the two diodes ? You're not the first person to ask that question. Here's a photo from my Fuzz Sustain (before I sold it - dreadful pedal). You wanted to know what was written...

Re: SolaSound - Tone Bender MK1.5 [schematic]

They were used quite a bit in Marshall Supafuzzes. Statistically it would not be unlikely for one of Mictester's alleged two basement-find Sola Sound made Supafuzzes to have those Impex transistors inside.
