Re: Halifax - Treble Booster
Do you have any info on this pedal? It looks awesome. It's a rebranded Höfner pedal. The earliest sighting of the Höfner series that I'm aware of is in this catalogue from 1967, but I guess they were probably in production for a while. I'm not sure about what the 'Halifax' company is, but I think I...

Here are a couple of gutshots of another black Fuzz Up like Ed's. I hope the owner of this pedal won't mind me sharing the pics!

Yep! Although for now it mostly focuses on the 1960s British fuzz thing: https://fuzzboxes.org

Re: Vick Flick, Gary Hurst and the first Maestro Fuzztone in UK
ok, thanks for chiming in! Don't even dare to trod in this field, in fact, seeing you got everything covered. But there being no info about Vick Flick on your website, I thought I'd put it up. But you're very right: you shouldn't trust something because the guy was there. We have proof that Beck us...

Re: Vick Flick, Gary Hurst and the first Maestro Fuzztone in UK
The only problem is that Vic Flick has never owned a Tone Bender MKI, nor does he recall ever meeting Gary Hurst. Flick even still owns the FZ-1 that he used during the 1960s, which is photographed in one of his biographies. Vic Flick apparently also requested that Music Ground (AKA British Pedal Co...

Re: VOX (JEN) Tone Bender - circa 1966 - 197(?) [schematic]
Probably was repaired sometime in the past. The RCA SK3004 is a cross to the factory transistor (and hundreds of others). I have some here, they are really crappy transistor leakage wise. Just posted those because they were such clear and beautiful gut shots... Red dot on the original transistor is...

Re: Harmonic Generator
Very little is known because none of these pedals have actually been discovered to have survived (yet!) The "four semiconductors" described in the ad could be interpreted as 'three transistors and a diode', as on the Buzzaround. According to a guy who worked at Advision in early 1966, a Ha...

Your build is ace! That blue hammertone sure looks close to the original too. My only suggestion would be to replace that horrible white washer

Re: Carlsbro - Fuzz Box 1966(?) [schematic]
I'm glad to see interest in this obscure early fuzzbox! It's interesting that VIgeoff's has lots of output volume, because my old one doesn't get much further past unity. It's definitely one of the quieter models from the time. Here are the voltage readings that I took just now from the old original...

Re: FAL - Treble booster from 1967 [schematic]
Here's my early FAL, c.1964/65 (estimated by the dates of the various ads). I've only ever come across one other in the white case, and it had a NKT transistor of some sort (presumably like the later black models). My white one has a black glass OC44. https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/51540081568_...

Re: Sola Sound - Tone Bender Mark I (1965) [schematic]
There's nothing to hunt -- if any of the other (surviving) dudes on the list still owned the pedals, then the pedals would've prized away by Ant Macari or me by now. It really is just a courtesy thing, because they're already aware of the mistake they made, not holding onto what are now £5000+ arti...

And one of the winners of that competition was tracked down more recently by Macari's, who reacquired the pedal for their own collection.
There's more general (and verifiable!) historical information about the 'MKI' here: https://fuzzboxes.org/tonebendermki

Re: WEM - Project V [schematic]
The former owner of mine recalled using 8.4v Mallory batteries with it. The metal clasps for the batteries in this model are a size smaller than is usually fitted in early British effects (thus don't accomodate a PP4) and the fixed battery terminals screwed into the enclosure are exactly the right d...

Re: Vox - V816 Distortion Booster: GE an SI versions! [schematic]
Thank you Electric Warrior for the schematic and nightraven for the photos. (And modman for starting the thread.) But i'm a little confused when comparing the EW schematic to the nr photos: - There appears to be a 100k resistor in the photos, but that value is not in the schematic. - Also, the blue...

Re: Vox - V816 Distortion Booster [schematic]
They're STC ASY50 transistors. I had a go at drawing up the schematic but got frustrated and gave up. After more than 10 years collecting vintage pedals, I'm still hopeless on the technical side of things. Electric Warrior did the detective work on this one.

Re: JMI Vox - Grey Wah c. 1967
On another note, does anyone know if there is a axle tension bar under the treadle on the original 'Grey Wahs', as these volume pedals do not, and seem to rely only on the pot friction, cant find any pictures that show it online, but it looks like originally there was a battery clip which may bolt ...

Re: Zonk Machine - middle transistor is silicon ??? trim pot
According to the article and catalog pages picutured, the Zonk Machine and Zonk II were being sold concurrently at first, with the Zonk II being a much cheaper pedal. I guess at one point they simply discontinued the Zonk Machine? From what I understand they made the Zonk II well into the 70's. I'v...
