My build report Seriously cool work. The etching is over my head, but I really appreciate the comparisons of ICs. Mouser says that the LM1458M is a cross for the NE5532, so I might have all of the parts to build this thing. If you get a chance, would you please post your PCB layout somewhere? I act...

OK - thanks for that - TL082 more transparent - anyone else noticed this :?: bajaman I just built this thing from MarkM's excellent layout. I socketed an LM353N, TL072, and TL082CP (couldn't find a TL082CD in a DIP.) The LM353 sounded way too bright and harsh. At first, I thought that I had screwed...

Thanks for your help. And Futurlec does indeed have the dual-ganged pots. I didn't know that they were called "dual taper" pots.

Just so I'm clear on this: the missing 1M resistor connects the gate to Vref (BIAS on the schem) in order to get 4.5v (=9.0/2) on the JFET's drain, right?

And while I'm at it, does anyone know where to find Alpha or similar 20k dual-ganged pots? Smallbear and Mouser don't seem to have them.

The schematic has already been posted and discussed. For some reason,
it doesn't show up in a search. Regardless, there you go.

Hold on... a 1290NS is $8.50 at New Sensor, but the same box is $5.00 at PPP. Is PPP the importer/distributor and New Sensor the reseller? The pricing makes no sense :? It's common for manufactures to sell their products at a higher price than the market. This way, people like PPP aren't discourage...

Congratulations on your first build. Plugging into something you made and playing music is a great feeling. It only gets better from here. Also, pedalpartsplus seems to have the cheapest 3pdt switches around, but I haven't checked effects connection lately. You'll want a good cheap supply of those t...

I listened to the OD and Distortion clips. I don't hear anything new or special about these pedals. In fact, if they were cased in plain Hammonds, we wouldn't even be talking about them.

Thanks KT66, I will try those vactrols when I build. I may also grab some LDR's just in case. I wonder if the color of the LED really matters as much as the LDR ratings? I'm going to have to order from 4 different places to get all the parts I need to build this (including powdercoated case). It ma...

Thank you. This looks like an interesting circuit. I've done some reading about it over at Aron's forum and it seems very highly regarded. I'm definitely going to breadboard this and try the suggested mods.

I actually have that one. But I was under the impression that Doug's original design had tone stack pots. Maybe I'm wrong? I appreciate the effort though.

Cheap stripboard: http://www.elexp.com/pro_pb16.htm

The site has a $20 minimum order. Their pots are larger than the alpha 24mm, so you might want to avoid them. They do have some cool stuff in their surplus section though.

Doug Hammond - Meteor

DougH wrote:Nope. I quite worrying about it last March.
In that case, would you mind posting your Meteor schematic? Or someone else? I've wanted to build the full 5-knob version for awhile now, but I can't find the schematic, and general guitar gadgets hasn't been selling the PCBs as far as I can tell.

Excellent work. I've been thinking about doing some sort of Muff build lately, and this looks interesting.

And I believe that the "47" ceramic is simply a 47pF cap. I might be wrong, but when the multiplier digit is zero, it's simply omitted. This would explain its small size.

IMHO, due to the tantals and Silva Micas the MOD didn't sound to bassy for me, more like a refined vintage RAT. If it's to bassy sounding cut some bass by altering the R or C value in the double RC-network, or decrease the coupling cap before the tone control to 2,2 or 1 uF, You candecrease the inp...

Hold on, mouser.com sells them for 9 cents each. Are the current production transistors inferior? Or is there something I don't know about these?
