Re: freestompboxes.org is back

I've just learned that paypal charges $10 monthly for adding recurring payments as a feature to your account. In addition to some other pretty questionable charges. Why does it have to be a monthly contribution and therefore raise problems with Paypal? Would a one-time (annual) donation not achieve...

Re: Cornish G2 - Guts, Schematic, Layout (from Tracer's Fund [traced]

Although the type of cap can have influence in the behaviour of a circuit that's virtually not the case in this circuit. I was pretty certain that, when tracing this pedal, there would be a lot of questions on the type, brand aor whatsoever of the components used. Many assume that ages were spent o...

Re: Pete Cornish Tube Buffer

I would use something like the other suggested Cathode follower Check the schematics of the Vox FX loop, the Valvulator or the Dumbleator. I used something like this, with a tad more gain, on my newest amp build to overcome the (impedance) problem of 8 powertubes :D I'm bringing this post back from...

Re: Alembic F2B! (PCB and Layout)

Hasn´t anyone checked this site for another PCB layout of the F2-B aka Fender Showman preamp ? http://www.lorcan.me/projects/tube-bass-preamp/ This supplies the PSU and tube board as PCBs. However I´d use a CF after the last tube stage and not just a pot as suggested on the website. BTW, the "i...

Re: BAJA Real Tube Drive pedal project [documentation]

Both my BRTO plugpacks are 16V AC/ 1.25 A types, and they seem to work fine, I think I paid about $16.00 or so for them, so I agree, they aren't cheap..... :) I wish they would be $16.00 over here, I would have bought a pair straight away. The 15VAC/1A I found the other day costs 38.00 AUD / 51.50 ...

Re: BAJA Real Tube Drive pedal project [documentation]

After two o´clock the pedal becomes really grainy, growly, oversaturated which does not sound so nice to me. Perhaps there is a mistake ... :hmmm: ... any ideas to tame the gain? It is perfect with the DRIVE set between 10 and 1 o´clock, although you can have nice bluesy tones at low gain settings ...

Re: BAJA Real Tube Drive pedal project [documentation]

Have you tried your build out, and how does it sound?..... :) Whoo-hee ! Goodness, that pedal´s middle name is Raaawk! :horsey: I have now tried it out with the old National 12AX7 (from the unused ADA MP-1) which gives 12.97VAC at the heaters. Also a TAD (Tube Amp Doctor) 12AX7 @ 12.63VAC and a TAD...

Re: BAJA Real Tube Drive pedal project [documentation]

I had the same issue with the in and out sockets that I wanted to use, but I found a way to solder the sockets to the PCB, here's what you do: 1,With a pair of clippers, cut off the thin part of the socket's solder terminals that normally go through holes on the PCB. 2,Cut some Tinned Copper Wire i...

Re: BAJA Real Tube Drive pedal project [documentation]

Have you tried your build out, and how does it sound?..... :) No, I haven´t. I have still not found a source for proper jacks. Everything I find over here is wider as the given dimensions on Bajaman´s PCB. Even bending those little legs won´t help. :( The reason why I have opted for an 18VAC transf...

Re: BAJA Real Tube Drive pedal project [documentation]

Personally, I'd be happy with 12.97 V AC on the heater pins, that's only about .27 V higher than in my build, which is nothing to worry about, probably well within tolerance.... :) i agree, that resistor sure does get hot, I'm using a 5Watt 33 Ohm Ceramic Wirewound type in my build, and it gets pre...

Re: BAJA Real Tube Drive pedal project [documentation]

No worries, you might want to increase the value of the resistor till you get about 12.7V AC on pins 4 and 5 of the Tube socket, 14.1V AC sounds a little bit too much heater voltage... :) Believe me, I have made much worse mistakes than that, one time I went to switch on my little guitar amp, and i...

Re: BAJA Real Tube Drive pedal project [documentation]

I assume that you do have the 12AX7 / ECC83 tube inserted in the socket :?: If not - plug it in and measure the AC voltage at the pins again  bajaman errrr ... it is now 14.1VAC with a 12AX7 in the tube socket ... http://www.smiliemania.de/smilie.php?smile_ID=7031 ... that much for my first a...

Re: BAJA Real Tube Drive pedal project [documentation]

Hmmmmm....that's unusual, it almost sounds like the resistor is acting like a dead short, I'm using a 16V AC/1.25 A plugpack with my build, I get about 20V AC unloaded, and 12.7V AC across pins 4 and 5 of the Tube with a 33 Ohm/5 Watt resistor..... :) It could be that you might have something short...

Re: BAJA Real Tube Drive pedal project [documentation]

I´m testing my two Baja boards and come up with a unusual voltage at the heater pins (4&5). I use an 18VAC wallwart @ 1.125A, which gives 20.2VAC (unloaded). The heater resistor is a 39R/5W type but I read 20.1VAC at the heater pins! Just like there wouldn´t be a resistor at all ... Th...

Re: Fairfield Circuitry - The Barbershop (gut) [traced]

I like vintage stuff in general, especially when it's dirty, rusty and decrepit. Just bought my first bike, a '72 Honda CB350. It's been sitting in a shed for some 20 years and now it's back on the road. The BS250 should be fine. Its "Rds on" is around 10 ohms, my Barbershops pull 5mA wit...
