Re: Compression Sustainer

Well that's good news on the caps...
I was wondering what size enclosure I should pick up on my next order from PPP. I only have the 1590ns in stock right now and from the looks of the stripboard layout it doesn't look like that will do. Any suggestions?

Re: "Superheated SHO" - asbestos gloves warning!

Finished it this morning. I was at Radio Shacks door before they opened. Ummm, I don'[t know a lot about DIY effects or guitar effects to boot, but I know that when I have my crappy little Crate practice amp at Vol 5, my SHO at Vol 5 and then I flip the switch for the 'Superheated SHO' . . . my pant...

https://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p218/stockmonkey42/DSC01215.jpg There she is. I don't have any 1M resistors so I'll have to wait until tomorrow to actually plug it in and test. I asked my kids for some help with the final enclousre design graphic. So far I have a robot, a rainbow and red and bl...

Re: Zvex - Woolly Mammoth [traced]

Play gently, turn you amp up for volume... :thumbsup On the otherhand, I tend to shred too so I know what you mean. Yes, there's some drop-off. I don't know if tossing in a lower hFE pair in there would help. I heard somewhere that 150 is good. Out of a batch of 20 I didn't have one lower than 162 :...

Re: Compression Sustainer

Few questions:

Would somebody please tell me the values of R5?

On the input jack (J5) the blue wire is input?

Is lug 2 of P1 blue wire output?

Green wires on the jacks are ground?

Re: "Superheated SHO" - asbestos gloves warning!

That was me Freq'. Total awesome sauce. Thanks so much.

I'm gonna make it tonight or tomorrow. Quick question though . . .

The orange wire coming from tab 2 on S1.
Can it be soldered to the B4 spot on the Excellent Stiffy layout or do I have to solder to C6, right on the Drain?

Re: Zvex - Fuzz Factory [traced]

Completed a build using Igloo's layout since NOTHING I've used so far has worked. That one doesn't work either. Am I missing something here?

What is the pot lug order? Are we looking at the bottom of the pot or the top?

Re: Zvex - Woolly Mammoth [traced]

Just built mine using a pcb from Madbean. It works perfectly, as far as I can tell, as it sounds like the original I had previously. It sounds great and all the controls work as they should. I used 2n3904's from Small Bear with a HFE of 150ish each. Love it. Love to see some gut shots! Did you foll...

Got my second build going.
Nasty, sputtery, Atari sounds with no sustain.

Will unmatched tranies do this?

Re: Zvex - Woolly Mammoth [traced]

anyone? Check the wiring diagram vs all the pots, checked the components and my e-caps are backwards and I didn't solder the patch cable on my 3PDT. Those issues would explain all my problems. http://gaussmarkov.net/wordpress/thoughts/wiring-up-a-1590b/ Bush', go there. This is the most elegant des...

Re: Zvex - Fuzz Factory [traced]

Question. When looking at this layout: https://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p218/stockmonkey42/knownworkingtotal.gif It states that we're looking at the back of the pot. However, if that's the case then when we flip the pedal over, facing the top, volume will be on the far right, where stab should be...

Re: Zvex - Fuzz Factory [traced]

Yep, you're right.

470M is Megohms.
3M9 is 3.9 Megohms, not Ohms.

*turns toward workbench* That explains a few things . . .
