Re: Do-It-Yourself Layout Creator [freeware] -- Updates log [link]
Been busy in the last couple of months and I released 11 new versions since late 2018. Many new components added, some cool new features like ability to highlight connected areas that follows copper traces, cuts, everything. Should improve productivity and reduce changes of errors. Check it out and ...

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
These shops are not primarily car related. More like kinkos in the states...but less fancy and can do more stuff for less money :) they make ads, billboards, promo material, keychains, pens...you get the idea. Tinting foils are different and they probably don't print on those. These foils are more f...

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
Thanks! The foil isn't much of a trick, it's pretty common technique, but it's probably not as cheap to do in western countries for one-off small projects as it is here in Serbia. I just prepare a design in Corel or other vector based software - one drawing for the cutout template, one for the print...

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
finally got to do the labeling on my Pink Eye build. The label is printed on the transparent foil they typically use for shop windows or car decorations. It's not perfect and you can see the foil under certain angle towards the light, but it's good enough. http://diy-fever.com/wordpress/wp-content/g...

sure, you can put a resistive load instead of the speaker and tap the output from there. Google firezog line out.

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
I find them to be quite the opposite. LEDs sound harsher to me than any other diodes. YMMVHamishR wrote: I suspect LEDs were originally chosen because they seem to have that smooth, buttery sound that so many like - I generally prefer the spikier sound of 4148s.

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
@bajaman did you experiment with one diode + the ZTX in series instead of two diodes? I measured the ZTX and forward voltage is about the same as silicon diodes (~620mV), so if we use only one pair of ZTX devices, we'll effectively halve the headroom compared to the stock circuit. I tried the combin...

It's a pair of mosfet+diode, one instead of each LED

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
One more update - experimented with replacing LED clippers. Started with LED 3 and 4 after U2.2, as those were glowing brighter when playing compared the the other two...I'm assuming those are clipping the signal harder and playing with them would have a bigger impact. So I replaced them with a BS25...

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
Got some time to experiment with the clipping section and replaced the 4 diodes with two ZTX transistors (and two jumpers to keep the signal flowing) and there's a dramatic change in noise. It wasn't particularly noisy before but now it's dead quiet, even on max gain. It did lose some of the sharpne...

here's the same thing with impulse alone (no reverb either)...sounds better this way I think.

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
Here's a very quick and messy demo of my build
plugged into interface and added Bias Amp (plexi clean) and a touch of reverb. All controls at noon, both on the pedal and in the amp sim.
Cheers,
Bancika

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
@andlord yes, those are 1/4w resistors. I can't find 1/8w where I live so these were the smallest available. The switch is from musikding.de, they have few colors. One of my favorite shops @picatostas Haven't compared shielded vs regular, but I always use shielded in high gain pedals and amps. As I ...

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
Finally got some time to complete my build - I call it "pink eye" :) It fired from the first try without any issues. I put NE5332P for U1 and U2 because I had those in my bin (shouldn't be any worse than TL072) and TL073 for U3. Other than that, it's a stock circuit, but I put sockets to b...

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
On my build (which works great), I connected the other end of the non inverting biasing resistor (470k) to pin 7 of the op amp IC1. i really do not know why Friedman (and Bugg) connected it to the middle of the voltage divider  bajaman Yes, that was my intial thought when I first saw the sche...

yeah, I agree. But those are the smallest I can get where I live. I'll probably just install them vertically, like old boss or ibanez pedals.jalmonsalmon wrote: kind of sucks cramming STANDARD 1/4 watter resistors :

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
it will also be interesting to check out different op-amps. TL072 is so vanilla People get obsessed with opamps in tubescreamers.
I have a few different dual opamp types leftover from experimenting with Timmy circuit, I'll give them a try here.
Cheers

Thanks, bajaman. Very interesting info!
In that case, it looks like MJE253 is the closer to the "holy grail", no?
