Re: Shin-ei - FY-2
....and move the .01 output cap right off the collector, and heavily reduce the gains of the transistors, and heavily reduce the size of the output cap, and add a cap across Q2 BC (which is pretty much necessary, not optional), and you don't need to shoot for 4.5v on Q2 C  ...well, there is t...

Re: Shin-ei - FY-2
Sorry to double post, but I couldn't edit that once I realized I hadn't said what I meant. The "Fuzz Face FY-2 Mod" is really just a removal of the 8.2k resistor on the collector of Q2, right?deadllama wrote:This is just a Fuzz Face without the voltage divider on the output, right?

Re: Boss - HM-2 ( Heavy Metal ) [schematic]
I just picked up an old DOD American Metal for $10 at the local Guitar Center. Before I crack this thing open, does anybody already have a handy schematic of the differences in the tone controls between this and the HM-2? Am I correct in believing the tone control ("Presence" instead of Ba...

Re: Jordan - Bosstone [schematic]
NOTE: For some reason, I'm not able to edit or delete my previous two posts in this thread... I'd like to delete the first one and roll the second one into this one. Posting three times in a row makes me feel really lame. I built one of these using a vero layout I got from the other forum's gallery....

Re: Camel Toe
I'm a fan (and it's got nothing to do with my username). I like to use it as a boost with a little bit of "edge". About halfway up the "fuzz" knob (I labeled my two controls "level" and "breakup") you get some interesting Fender-Deluxe-blowing-up tones, to my ...

Re: Jordan - Bosstone [schematic]
For some reason I can't go back and edit my previous post, so I guess I'll make a new one. What do our resident analysis gurus think might be the difference(s) between these two Bosstone clones? [youtube]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvL-bPfARUga[/youtube] I think the second, the "Bag of Boge...

Re: Design Philosophy: phase 2 and beyond
I have a voodoo labs microvibe on my recording pedalboard. That is another good one. I will try to open it in the next few days for dissection. I have one of those as well. IIRC, it's a straight-up Univibe clone, with the lamp/LDR's and everything. For some reason, I hadn't noticed the Tri-Vibe pro...

Re: Design Philosophy: phase 2 and beyond
The Uni-vibe has always struck me as a circuit that, were it designed today, would be done completely differently, what with the lamp and LDR's, and the low impedance, etc. It also shares with the Fuzz Face the distinction of being the a Holy Effect of God, Chosen by His Messenger Jimi Hendrix, and ...

Re: Jordan - Bosstone [schematic]
Say, I've got some of those NOS GI 1N456's headed my way from Small Bear (they're the original diodes for the Ampeg Scrambler, sez the Small Bear site) and got enough to have some extras lying around. If I were to put those in the Bosstone circuit, I'm guessing I'd probably have to add some sort of ...

Re: Tube Works & Mosvalve fans?
I've got the Tube Driver 1x12 combo amp. (The 100W one. Don't remember the model number or anything). Great amp. I like my Hot Rod Deville better, but for smaller clubs/bars, I always take the Tube Driver.

There, I just saved your life.
Hell, I don't even like using my old Silvertone 1484 that has a two-prong power cord. 220V, with no isolation from the wall, and a guitar with a grounded bridge? Bad call.

Re: Ohnoho Utter Stutter
I guess I'm the odd man out? I have a proto-PCB fabb'd for new designs. Once the layout is verified, I'll have a production run made. Certainly more expensive than building on perf-board, but if I'm gonna have to layout the PCB anyway... If I could make layouts as tight as your Dark Echo PCB appear...

Re: Ohnoho Utter Stutter
Can you please provide some component values? The pics don't provide capacitor values and i'd like to RE this pedal. And pot values, if you can get at them? I'm guessing the "fine" and "coarse" knobs are wired together, with the "fine" pot being of a smaller value than...

Re: Ohnoho Utter Stutter
Two questions: (1) Is that board attached to anything? Or just floating around free inside the enclosure? (2) Why the four jacks? Send/return loop? Not a very complicated design. I've never heard one of these before, I'll have to track down some YouTube vids or something. Interesting idea. EDIT: I w...

Stocking up on op amps...
I've been ordering op-amps on an "as needed" basis, but I think I'm going to bite the bullet and just buy a crapload of them all at once. Here's my question: should I get one of those op-amp kits from Small Bear that has several different types, or should I just buy 100 TL072's and call it...

I'm a Mac technician by day, superhero by night (technically it's "Apple-Certified Macintosh Technician"). I always use Winclone, and I haven't had any trouble yet. I highly recommend it. Just make sure the volume you're cloning is NTFS and not FAT or else you won't be able to clone to dif...

A+ for understanding that the real mojo is in the selling the sizzle, not the steak. Yeah, I have to say, this is pretty good marketing. Everybody here knows it's probably a Fuzz Face or a Tonebender, but at least it's an interesting marketing concept. Personally, I'm just bothered by the word &quo...

Re: EHX Big Muff, EC3003 REV_C Model [schematic]
I just got one of these today. Just wanted to report that mine also has BC550C's, and also has 1N4148 clippers. In the process of adding a tone bypass toggle (a must for a Muff, IMHO) and bright white LED (just because I had one :P ) to my new one, I pulled the guts out of my older NYC RI Muff, a Re...
