(...) helmut, his posts on his old aquataur site were absolutely invaluable. Thanks Pink Jimi. I changed my webspace´s address. Changing webspaces are a nuicance, but that's the way things evolve. All the information is there. Great somebody finds my scribblings useful. Behold my new web address on...

Re: presenting the Schizoid Face

By common request :D I made a few additional recordings, FF unbuffered, buffered hard driven, buffered 10k, unbuffered and thumped down with a clean boost á la Tonebender.
Have fun.

Re: presenting the Schizoid Face

(...) 3 knob tonebenders. Mine does not sound like a tonebender. Be your own judge: http://aquataur.hilpold.net/aquataur/musicstuff/schizoid_fuzz.html The typical 3 transistor tonebenders have a 10k resistor in the driving stage. In a common emitter stage this will yield a 10k source impedance, sin...

Re: presenting the Schizoid Face

It drives me mad having to wait on such ridiculous parts like a case. I want the thing boxed up and silent before I make a recording. Experience up till now : FF does not sound farty, both sections eminently usable, reacts well to the volume pot. A word on that. Things like cleans up well and reacts...

Re: presenting the Schizoid Face

Cést Voilá. The PCBs are made - and work :D All worked out as expected. More on that once the pedal is complete, if there is interest. Sound: as predicted - good. I cannot comment on the GE sound, since I do not have such a unit. I do however have a hybrid fuzz-a-like, that sure is in the same ballp...

Re: presenting the Schizoid Face

Thanks brother Photon. I did intuitively incorporate some of the things you talk about in a PCB I rendered today. It´s gonna fit into a 125B case, even has a buffer in front. I like my effects buffered, thus the "poker face" I once did (think the web site does not work currently, have to l...

Re: presenting the Schizoid Face

Gentlemen,
this thread is a bit dusted, nevertheless... My request has no better place to go.

Does anybody have the current schematics saved? All images are blurred due to the picture host´s questionable politics. This is a PITA.
Jimi, I want to thank you for all the effort.

Greetings, Helmut.

Re: Tech21 SansAmp PSA-1 PCB traces and schematics [traced]

Teemu,

This is a little aside. On this model I don´t see the "amp model" switching circuitry you mention in your book. I wondered where the 1k notch comes from on the "Tweed" model. I found no reference for that whatsoever.

Re: Tech21 SansAmp PSA-1 PCB traces and schematics [traced]

but maybe the real secret is only in the magic box There is some interesting read in Teemu Kyttälä´s book , that is available online about the Sansamp series. As he sais: SansAmp products rely strictly on such “heresy” as overdriving OpAmps. There is no universal “SansAmp circuit” and thus the insi...

Colorsound Dipthonizer aka Honeydripper with LM13x00

I adapted the circuit to run with the current production LM13700 (or LM13600). Lacking any adjustment features, it was not a 1:1 replacement, but it is easy enough to upgrade existing designs. I completely redrew the whole schematic in order to understand the function blocks and I explain those in d...

Re: Maestro FSH-1 / Oberheim VCF / Tonepad Filter/Sample/Hol [schematic]

I have made a PCB for the LFO and S/H section in lieu of driving my own version of the Colorsound Dipthonizer (with LM13700). I managed to fix the noise generator, it runs with the mod I outlined earlier like a breeze with the first old transistor I found. It does run with the Dipthonizer, but does ...

Re: Maestro FSH-1 / Oberheim VCF / Tonepad Filter/Sample/Hol [schematic]

Mike, did you get around to try the noise transistor mod? I have three other projects to get off the table before I can look into the FSH-1 so I have not chance to try myself. The noise circuit itself is easy enough to breadboard, but I would not know if it makes the whole problem any better. -helmut

Re: Maestro FSH-1 / Oberheim VCF / Tonepad Filter/Sample/Hol [schematic]

(Sorry for the multiple messages)
I found a source for the beforementioned synthesizer that uses exactly the same circuit the FSH-1 uses - namely an open base. It thus cannot be a tracing error.
Try connecting the pins.

Re: Maestro FSH-1 / Oberheim VCF / Tonepad Filter/Sample/Hol [schematic]

(cannot edit the previous message) Note that in the circuit you linked to (Odyssee) the transistor is a PNP, in which case the diode acts like a normal diode with 0.7V limit. Don´t know if this works as a noise generator. Replacing this with a 6.8V Zener will not be the same. If it were a NPN the re...

Re: Maestro FSH-1 / Oberheim VCF / Tonepad Filter/Sample/Hol [schematic]

Mike, if you just have the hood open (or anybody), try soldering base and collector of the noisemaker transistor together. If you scan the internet for "transistor noise generator" you will find exactly the same circuit, except the collector is left open or connected to the base (which wil...

Re: Servo Offset Biasing for JFETs

certainly if someone starts talking about price and component number, this is overkill. Component price his is not an argument for the d.i.y.-er. Manufacturers may debate a possibly redundant capacitor and play hazard for the sake of saving a few cent in lieu of a big production run. I think I have...

Re: UMBLE vs Boomstick - and the best of both worlds

Long time expierience leads to full rehabilitation of the Boomstick ´s honour. It is now basically exact to Madbean´s schematic. I do, however, cut the bass content with a cut control inside my guitar, otherwise it mushes too much. I have never had an overdrive yet that so much reminded me of Hendri...
