Re: BAJA LA2A Style Optical Limiter [verified]

Re: BAJA LA2A Style Optical Limiter [verified]

how would i go about making the limit knob have a better sweep range?i used a 3mm diffused yellow LED and it works great, but the B10K limit knob has a very narrow range at the beginning of it's sweep. i tried it with both red and green opto leds but other than the amount of limiting, it still comes...

IMO an OC75 from musikding with an hfe of 50-60 would work well.

i just built it and it sounds great. here's a pic of my PCB (using storyboardist's layout----thanks!): http://johnkvintageguitars.homestead.com/Effects/Fuzz-ODs/DirtTransmitter/DirtTransPCB-01.jpg and here's my completed build in a polished & etched 1590B with all top jacks:: http://johnkvintageguit...

Re: Dunlop - JHF3 Band of Gypsys Fuzz Face [traced]

the reason that i asked is because, since i didn't have any BC558's (which is the first transistor and is a PNP) i tried a 2N2907A but i it just didn't sound right (too peaky and sharp). i then tried an MPS8598 with an hfe of 210 and it sounded really good. i also tried a BC559B with an hfe of 259 a...

does anyone know which BC558 they used? BC558A, BC558B, or a BC558C?

BTW, i also managed to fit it in a 1590B so made another one with a relayed true bypass:

Re: Catalinbread - VariOboost preamplifier [traced]

i built one using 'storyboardist's pcb layout mounted in a polished and etched 1590B with all top jacks. i used a center deytent pot for the 12db control so i'd know exactly where 'flat' is. IMO, it's a really nice utility pedal to have for guitar or bass: http://johnkvintageguitars.homestead.com/Ef...

BTW, this pedal sounds awesome running at 18 volts too. at 18V it has more clean headroom and a bit more output.

Re: BAJA Orange AD200B MkII bass amplifier in a 9v pedal 270 [verified]

i went back to Rev1 and omitted the volume control (since the actual amp doesn't have one) and it sounds A LOT better that way (it cured the funky distortion decay). i just connected treble 2 to where it used to connect to volume 3. I also changed the bass pot's taper to an audio pot for a better sw...

Re: BAJA Orange AD200B MkII bass amplifier in a 9v pedal 270 [verified]

just tried rev2. it still has a really ugly decay on the distortion (it sputters out as it fades- unlike an actual tube amp).

Re: BAJA Orange AD200B MkII bass amplifier in a 9v pedal 270 [verified]

being a bass player, i just drew up and etched a pcb for this one. it works and sounds good clean but unfortunately, i find the distortion to be less than desirable having a funky decay.
