vintage MXR Distortion+ scratcy noise while not moving pots

Hello folks, i purchased a vintage MXR Distortion+, which sounds as it should, but it has a constant noise that is similar to that of a scratchy pot noise, but lower in frequency. It is quite loud and it renders the pedal unusable. Here is a clip of that (sorry for the large file - this is how my ca...

Re: Effective, safe and lasting method against scratchy pots

Just as a follow-up to anyone wondering the same question. Well, for two pedals with this open type of pots i simply blasted them a bit with some air from an air-pump that is meant for cleaning camera lenses from dust. It immediately either resolved the issue or made audible changes to the scratchyn...

Re: Effective, safe and lasting method against scratchy pots

Thanks for all the input, guys! Yes, i certainly did not intend to get into a ideological debate of vintage vs modern or clone pedals - i use all of them. This one is intended to be sold, therefore i want to keep the originality intact, if possible. I will order some of that faderlube DeOxit or simi...

Re: Effective, safe and lasting method against scratchy pots

Not a very attractive solution, considering how much the value of a vintage pedal is lost due to changed components. I get your point and it would be fine with a modern pedal. For the old one i would at least do my best to prolong good function of the old pots and am therefore wondering about the be...

Effective, safe and lasting method against scratchy pots

Hi all, i have a vintage Colorosund overdriver pedal, which is great and in perfect condition. But it has scratchy pots all over the place. I was about to order some DeOxit D5 (being in Europe this is not that simple as it turns out, especially due to the shipping constraints). But then, after my or...

Re: Analog univibe with DAC/digipots instead of LDRs?

The number of steps is crucial in order to have an analog-like smooth sweep, correct? Would a 10 bit pot be enough? Afaik that is the higher standard. Next thing that comes up on some google research is the “zipper noise” - can this be expected to be a problem in an application, where the resistor l...

Analog univibe with DAC/digipots instead of LDRs?

Hi all, While thinking about the univibe tones and seeing the LDRs, that are agood match for their builds, starting to be phased out, i thought, if it would be possible to substitute the lamp and ldrs with 4 digital pots or dacs and program them for what ever resistance sweep one would wish. Would t...

Transition Vox Wah - Halo inductor in need of a rewind?

Hi folks! I scored a transition period Vox Wah for dirt cheap. I did not expect much (at that price) and despite the OK cosmetic condition, it really sounds far from what it should sound like - it goes from a less trebly sound to a more trebly sound ,without the vovel-like qualities. I inspected the...

great, thanks for the hint! i've never seen this part before. I'll update the gut shot later to include this info.

Re: Kingsley Bard - great tube bias tremolo pedal

Thanks for all the input guys! A good soul sent me this piece of information: "Look at the vibrochamp and remove the first input stage from the audio path and the buffer from the output of the oscillator. The rest should be really similar. Well, and you need a 250V PSU." In fact, in his de...

Re: Kingsley Bard - great tube bias tremolo pedal

Some notes on components that can be identified by this pic: 4x Mallory 150 .022uF@630v caps 1x 0.15uF (film?) cap 1x 12k 1x 1,5k 1x 220k 1x 100k 1x 680k 1x transistor that i have not identified yet 3m pot More pics would be needed to identify the few remaining components (apart from the PSU). Maybe...

Re: Kingsley Bard - great tube bias tremolo pedal

So the PCB/model Nr. seems to be PS-T1 REV2. here are the other markings on the board - maybe something gives away the supplier. As i found out, the reverse UR logo means it's a UL RECOGNIZED COMPONENT MARK Anyone recognizes the logo beneath the UR sign? R(A?)Z-01A 94v-0 E322597? (serial Nr.?) 1313 ...

Re: Kingsley Bard - great tube bias tremolo pedal

Here is a closer look at the PSU Kingsley uses for Bard, Squire and others. For the Bard the V3 spot is certainly populated. What is that WE (Wurth Elektronik?) 221 part - an inductor? Reverse UR logo means - UL RECOGNIZED COMPONENT MARK. No idea, if the digital watch style numbers 1313 might be a b...

Re: Kingsley Bard - great tube bias tremolo pedal

I think it's something like this: https://www.tube-town.net/ttstore/Kits/Power-Supply/TT-VPump-Voltage-Converter::6163.html?language=en Thanks for the link! Yes, indeed it does look like something along those lines. The Bard needs a 6.3 VDC line and a 275VDC line. PS-T1 REV2 was correct for the PCB...

Re: Kingsley Bard - great tube bias tremolo pedal

I've been interested in the power supply as well. It looks like some sort of DC-DC converter of some sort. Possibly third-party. Exactly, i realised this yesterday, as i noticed that the Squire and some other pedals seem to use the same PSU pcb board, sometimes without some components. It DOES look...

Re: Kingsley Bard - great tube bias tremolo pedal

Yes, i should have stressed that, of course, in my personal opinion, the Kingsley Bard is better for the bias trem sound than any other IC, transistor or opto-coupler trem. As this is always a purely subjective preference thing. The Bard can do one thing, but it can do it almost or just as good as t...

Kingsley Bard - great tube bias tremolo pedal

Hi folks, has anyone more info on the Kingsley Bard? I am wondering, if it is a design based on others or, if this is a new circuit of sorts? I could not find a schematic, but here is a gut shot that reveals at least something - maybe some one knowledgeable can make a good educated guess, what this ...

Re: Schaller Treble-Bass Boost [schematic]

Thanks for sharing and the work involved! Do you have an idea what this might be based on? The Schaller fuzz seems to be a fuzz face copy. This might be inspired by other design to or is this a fairly original circuit?
