Re: Buzzaround on eBay

Cool find, but somebody has messed with it a bit. GE diode was replaced, and there's added 33K resistor. Anyway, should be quite easy to fix it without harm. :thumbsup This will go for a lot of cash :) Oh yeah - extra 33k from the base of Q3 to what looks like one end of the Timbre pot. What's that...

Buzzaround on eBay

Thought this was worth a mention as they don't come up that often.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191305337655?_trksid=p2060778.m1438.l2649 The seller provided me with some decent gutshots on request... Looks to me that the temperature stabilising diode has been replaced with a modern rectifier type. ...

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]

Well i guess i like smooth better.. i used to collect garage rock from the sixties.. you can definitely hear how bands (especially from texas, early adopters cos of the heat i guess) used ear piercing, often ice picking silicon fuzzes. Thats why i like bands from before 1967. Later bands used silic...

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]

To my ears those NKT OC81s sound a bit more grittier than the DSI OC81Ds, whereas the DSI OC81Ds sound smoother with a touch more lows in the tone....... :thumbsup Yeah, the NKTs are quite gritty - what's the voltage on Q3? Guessing it's 8+. Gates a bit too much for my taste - I'd take the resistor...

Re: PCB Fab Houses

One other thing to consider is the customs and handling charges. That can narrow the gap in price between buying domestic and buying from China. Here in the UK it's not so much the customs fees, but the admin charges made by the couriers for handling that part. If I spend £50 on PCBs from China, cus...

Re: PCB Fab Houses

http://www.borapcb.com - another China-based house. More expensive than Screenbond. Strangely, about 3 minutes after contacting another Chinese fab. house I get an email from this lot saying they'll beat their price. Odd.

You don't need a long memory with the internet. I suspect the whole point of "The British Pedal Company" is to put some distance between 'em and the Google results.

Re: British Pedal Company

Just to clear up - Giles started to build vox-ish projects for mg after that whole scam saga exploded. Yep, the MG "business" was big news over here. Made the national papers by dint of them having sold stuff to a lot of celebs. I thought Steve Giles had cut out long before that. Oh well....

Thanks astrobass. I've seen those purple boards before - they look top notch. I think dorkbot do purple as well, though. Got bored waiting for Futurlec to get back to me and saw Seeed Studios get some love on here... http://www.seeedstudio.com/service/index.php?r=site/pcbService - Their Fusion servi...

PCB Fab Houses

I know there's plenty of info on this dotted around the various forums, but it would be really nice to have a list of recommended list of PCB fabrication houses. "Parts Sourcing & Trading" seems as good a home as any. I'm considering a few at the minute for a first order - it'd be grea...

Re: Want 100K lin expression pedal (or cheap wah shell)

I've also picked up a 100K linear pot that I hope will be a drop-in replacement for the B10K pot in my Roland EV-5 expression pedal. These are plastic and *much* lighter than the Crybaby shells. Please post up a link to this part if it works out: I really like my EV-5 and have built several "r...

Re: British Pedal Company

Yeah, he's very much alive. Just had a look on the DAM forum - apparently he had a falling out with some business partners and had to wind up the operation back in 2012. Dunno about the bike thing - a mate of mine told me that.

Re: British Pedal Company

Seem to have slipped back into business after disappearing for a while (I heard the guy that runs it had a nasty bike accident). Actually, that's Steve Giles & Vintage Pedal Workshop I'm thinking of. They seem to be gone for good. The BPC site mentions Nick Browning, who did the JMI stuff with ...

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]

I am kind of interested in getting a trio of those DSI OC81Ds but man those things are pricey when you see them :? Minifux on eBay auctions them in lots of 5, but I don't see any on at the minute. http://stores.ebay.co.uk/Germanium-Transistor/Germanium-Transistoren-/ That's where I got mine - £15 f...

British Pedal Company

Seem to have slipped back into business after disappearing for a while (I heard the guy that runs it had a nasty bike accident). The Gary Hurst/CBS Arbiter stuff looks pretty cool, but this Shatterbox video is high on the WTF scale. I know Dave Main's called his original some nasty names, but is it ...

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]

The Sola Sound OC84 reissue that I have has 15nF caps in place of the 10s to compensate for drift. That's pretty important - sounds much more like a vintage unit if you do that (more mids, a little smoother up top, and just generally better). Up to 22nF on the output cap still sounds good with the ...

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]

I can vouch for the cheap and readily available Tungsram AC125s - really decent. Closer to OC75s than OC84s, just a touch noisier than either with the Attack at max. I find they don't need to be quite as leaky as EW's Valvos. Putting the lowest leakage in Q2 helps it to bias properly with the stock ...
