Re: [Replica Files] Shin-ei/Univox Uni-Vibe

another thing that i've experimented is about the 2 diodes: if you use low V-drop ones (i.e. germanium diodes), the LFO would eventually stall; and if you pull them off the circuit the oscillating becomes more symmetrical, closer to a perfect sinusoidal (if you have the BIAS trim and the OFFSET tri...

great info, underlines what I've read that I should stay away from the trimmer pots.

Re: AD999 trouble

The main power filter cap was rusty. When I first replaced all the issues went away.

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna take a closer look at the other components. I can pretty much gaurantee it was never plugged into a reverse polarity adapter.

Maxon - AD999 trouble

I had to replace the filter cap on one of these cause some moisture got in there. Problems have bee reoccuring ever since, like no delay, excessive what I assume to be clock noise, low output of dry signal. I open it up and resolder the cap and things go back to normal, at least they used to , now i...

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xfAgOdOrJ1c I didn't want to bother trying to prove anything, and I don't, but this link deserves tobe in this thread, I think? Like, what is someone supposed to think? I'm sure someone is going to chime in with a good believable reason why this test is irrelevant......

Re: The 'Sound' of Capacitors..

Yes, that's pretty much what mictester and I are saying, when it comes to 9V "stompboxes". Read the datasheets, do the math, use simulations, see what impact the differences have. Look it up. But if you're gonna tell me you can hear a 0.001 dB difference, I won't be able to take you serio...

Re: The 'Sound' of Capacitors..

1. People think we don't understand capacitors well enough, that they have some metaphysical properties or that tiny variations in capacitance or parasitic/nonlinear properties have a significant impact on the signal. Learn about electronics. This brushes over a lot. Aside from the mystical crap, y...

Re: The 'Sound' of Capacitors..

i agree with Shiny_Beast Thanks, I just want to clairfy, while I tend to think there are differences, I'm not interested in proving it, my point is simply that this whole "burden of proof" business is BS in this conversation. It presumes that there being no difference at all is the ration...

anything else junior? It's pointless to try having a conversation with someone who has his fingers shoved firmly up his... ears. You say science is "on your side", yet fail to produce any relevant data and furthermore show consistent ignorance of the scientific method: the importance of d...

Still waiting for all them scientimatific tests. In the meantime please reread what I've said about confusing aesthetic values with objective properties . I htink I read that post, and I;m sure you're right, but it doesn't directly discount anything we are talking about, it just provides a possible...

Re: The 'Sound' of Capacitors..

Yes, yes, but take a close look at the experiment conditions: The signal level was held constant at about 70 volts RMS at 600 Hz across the capacitors. (for about 26mA signal current) That's quite a bit more energy than what you'd find in a stompbox, perhaps by two orders of magnitude. Surely nobod...

Re: The 'Sound' of Capacitors..

And still you insist that we don't know enough, that there are things we can hear but can't measure, can't model and predict. probably, I'm saying one marshall with red drops would be probably be a differnet experience than one capped with mustards, even if the caps were all magically identical in ...

Re: The 'Sound' of Capacitors..

No one would take it seriously? There's been a reasonable amount of attention given to this by people on their own time, are you dismissing them as well as their results? I think funding is proably a bigger reason why there isn't a giant study into the secret life of audio capacitors. Even so, becau...
