Re: Fuzzhugger Phantom Octave [traced]
Did anyone else ever try this? I never built from that schematic, perhaps there's an error I missed. It does look similar to the Finger Print (Penny Pedals), Maybe the LED - D3 is drawn backwards. cYa The way it's drawn, D3 will never conduct no matter what color you use. The 4148 will provide the ...

13 volts will kill a 1044 a lot faster than I can type this. They are rated at 10v max.chicago_mike wrote:My 9 volt power supply I use is actually putting out closer to 13 volts.
Could this kill the max 1044?

2n5089 has hfe from 400-1200. should be fairly easy to find one in the proper range. And they are low noise.

Re: RG Keen Transistor Test - an idiots' guide
I meant to post this over a year ago, but somehow other things kept pushing it back, but seeing this thread pop up again reminded me (actually kicked me in the ass to get it done :D ) This quicky tester came about one afternoon when I was about halfway through testing a bag of 100 AC128's. Looked do...

Re: So... tone capacitors, truth or myth?
I can sum this up in one sentence... If you think you need to change tone cap brand to make your guitar sound better, it's probably time to buy a better guitar. +1 If you think that changing the tone cap in your guitar makes that much difference you need to spend more time playing through the entir...

Re: Really Cheap Compressor [documentation]
If you don't use any shielding for the ldr/led combo, your status led might cause problems (depending on the kind of socket you use), because it might light the inside of the enclosure a bit. Important to keep that in mind... I agree with that, I'm just remembering Doug Deeper's comments on the lac...

Face to face with the led. And unless you are using a transparent box, there is no need to heatshrink them together.

The AC176's sound like a cool idea. Where those fall gain wise? Sorry I missed this and am a bit late replying. Just call it a senior moment. I could claim that I've been busy building things for the last month, but all I've done is an UglyFace. And changed out the dead and dying opto couple...

Just look up either Jack Orman's "Son of a too expensive ..." or the LP Eternity. Same ckt with an option for clipping. Both basically a TS without buffers.

We use the terminology entirely different, but I agree, no sense confusing the beginner any more than the topic already can.

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]
Damn, where's the edit button. phibes, when I say positive or negative battery, I am referring to the battery terminals, nothing else. Hook up the meter normally it's +9v. Flip the leads and it's -9v. Just a matter of where you reference.

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]
I guess to be a little clearer, positive battery goes to ground on the board, negative batt to the -9v point on the board. The only difference between PNP and normal NPN hookup is how the battery is attached to the board. Well and the polarity of the caps, but that is understood for PNP. After all, ...

No, the board is still positive ground, external is wired negative like everything else in the chain. I have had no oscillation problems this way.

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]
Nothings over complicated really, maybe I'm missing something? I guess I'm curious as to how you wire up your PNP pedals than. Sure, you can just flip the battery wires to the board, but either way, +9V is going to be grounding the input and output jacks. I'm not really seeing why it's odd as that'...

Re: Sola Sound - Tonebender Mark II Professional [schematic]
I am not talking about in the pedal itself. And again, it may be just my own paranoia, but all it would take is a shorted component in the pedal to put reversed battery to anything external to that pedal through the connecting cables, not just to external power. As a standard, we put DC blocking cap...

Just match this to whatever board you're using. Should be easy to figure out. http://www.generalguitargadgets.com/diagrams/tonebender_m2p_lo_pp.gif I am referring to this layout and wiring, BTW. It may be just my old professional paranoia, too many decades of working in railroad electronics where f...

Having read my way through all 22 pages of this thread for the second time, I have seen a few posts referring people to the GGG wiring and layout PDF. The one on JD's website that is dated 09 Feb of this year. Does it raise any red flags for anyone that he shows +9Vdc on the rings of both input and ...
