Re: Hey, I built something

Thanks for the welcome back and the comments. The logo was the client's artwork that he's generously allowed me to keep and it was done by Amplates. http://www.amplates.com/faceplates.html One of the joys of building in the 21st Century is the range of parts suppliers and cottage industry vendors wh...

Hey, I built something

Hi gang, been away for awhile. I know everyone's been wondering where I wandered off to :? Okay, maybe not. Well, in addition to getting married and restringing my new bride's autoharp, I did this bespoke build: http://ronbalesfx.blogspot.com/search?q=fenton Very pleased with the outcome. Clips when...

Re: What to build around a 5k primary OT???

A SE EL84 will not saturate that thing, just natural imperfection will give it enough gap for that. Here's a crazier idea. Knock it apart, restack it with an air gap, all the E's on one side all the I's on the other except for one on each end to hold it together and run single ended 6550 for about 1...

Re: Are all 3PDT stomp swithches the same?

Crap!! hehehe Well, I have had too many of different brands die in my arms hehehe. I have an idea for a stress test... have the switch itself activating a small motor that I could adjust to simulate a normal's stomp preassure, and then a counter to see the life cycle... is quite simple, since is th...

Re: Are all 3PDT stomp swithches the same?

I have had perfect results from the "Cliff" branded 3PDTs.

Very good results from all other blue ones.

Re: Peavey Triumph cuts out until it warms up

Like bacaruda said. Reflow. The joints in the pic don't look at all good from here in a grainy photo. You won't likely see a broken trace you'll find dodgy solders, especially on large parts and jacks and pots. Clean and reseat all connectors, exercise and clean all jacks and pots. Basic stuff first...

Sand and polish facets onto a 5mm LED? tiny fussy and probably unrewarding, but it would work. Mouser has metal bezels.

Re: Look at this 1! Scrambler for 1500 buck$

Oh, I've got one, now. Built it a couple years ago. Had to have that sonic destruction available.

I pretty much do have to buy all the parts since nobody throws 3PDTs and stuff in my bucket at the off ramp "Will Work for Pedal Parts" thing I've got going.

Re: Look at this 1! Scrambler for 1500 buck$

I remember the Scrambler fondly. I couldn't afford one, they were expensive by back in the day standards. That case was not cheap. Being a punk kid with no money I'd go hang out at music stores and play all the cool gear that I couldn't afford. Learned early on that being respectful and considerate ...

Re: Semi-hollowbody with P-90s

Loading electronics through a pickup rout is a piece of cake compared to the ones where you have to go through an F-hole. Over the years I've had a few basket case semi hollows come in where the owner or a friend tried to put in a new pickup or replace a pot. One guy was nearly in tears with frustra...

Re: Acoustic 360

It's acting as a diode between the supply rail and ground. And I don't know why. This doesn't look like a circuit that would require any sort of flyback protection. I can't imagine it aids filtering.

I'd be very interested to see an explanation of this.

It's all about matching the load to the transducer. Some pickups are just too brittle sounding without pots. My tele turned into a paint peeling device without a tone pot.

Now that right there is one of the biggest, most important points ever.

Get it good enough, and then spend the time learning how to play it and make the most of it.
