Re: Catalinbread - Dirty Little Secret [traced]

I fixed the 560/820 resistors as roseblood mentioned. I am using 2n5457s in mine but J201s also sound good. At rehearsal last night I sat down with my original and my clone as built with Mark's layout and could get the clone to sound exactly the same as the original with my favourite settings I'd di...

Re: Catalinbread - Dirty Little Secret [traced]

FWIW I used J201s in mine and it sounds pretty good, not splatty or anything.

I have an original and once I've boxed mine I'll do some A/B'ing. it's alittle tricky with flying leads on the board and pots connected via breadboard :)

I tried a normal red and bright blue and hire and had the same effect with each
Maybe my ldr is nice and sensitive

Thanks for the help guys, turned out to be a misplaced resistor so the Depth pot was not in circuit. Fixed that and Wham - nutso.

You'd think after 3 years of R & D, they'd route the PCB in an intelligent enough way as to negate the need for that blue jumper wire.

Re: Mid-Fi Electronics - Pitch Pirate - Guts, Schematic [traced]

Built one of these up from the vero layout a page back - I used a bright blue led, a 5mm LDR and a 20k depth pot

Definitely seems a lot more tame than the original in terms of mod depth - a 50k depth pot doesn't seem to fix this - what should I try next? A white led? Any resistor or component subs?

Re: Catalinbread - Dirty Little Secret [traced]

Still mixing up the carbon comp, like the vox voiced box, I see. I wonder what the trimpot is for. Single JFET stage? Interesting. Might open up my DLS Superlead Prototype sometime.. The trim is a presence pot The switch is between super lead and bass modes (gain change and also eq reconfiguration ...

Re: Mad Professor Forest Green Compressor [traced]

Looks like I used a standard 2n5088 style CBE top to bottom when straight edge is facing right for transistor orientation. I didn't use BC550cs on mine so I didn't realise they had a reversed pinout.

I built a pedal with this layout. It worked fine.

Maybe design a layout yourself from scratch.

We should start "best vero layout contest" thread :horsey: Funny idea! What would be your list of criteria for a "good" layout? My personal list, most important things first: -Size: Use the full width of the box (i.e. a layout for 1590B should be 21 holes wide), with as few line...

Re: D*A*M - Sonic Titan ( DAM ) [traced]

I made one of these recently and did the following mods: - Volume knob upped to 100KA - makes the tone pot more effective (too bright stock I think), and reduces the perceived gain boost at higher settings - Add 100 ohm + 47nF series combination from pin 5 to ground to improve decay quality from LM3...

Noone can answer that but you - slap 'em in and have a play - your ears are the best judge.

I'll get back to you later with some voltages from my build. OK, Here we go. Battery reads 9.3V. Readings taken with Sustain and Volume on full, test signal running. IC: 1 No connection 2 2.3V 3 2.3V 4 0 5 0.6V 6 2.3V 7 9.3V 8 No connection Transistors (C B E) Q1: 9.3V 1.4V 2.0V Q2: 8.8V 2.3V 2.4V ...

Re: Janglebox [traced]

Does anyone have some good voltages for the transistors and op-amp? Do I need to use an NTE996 for this? They're £8 here and it would be ordered from the US so that would take a while... The NTE996 should be equivalent to a CA3080E. It is just what was used in the original unit. I used a CA3080E in...

Re: Janglebox [traced]

Has anyone had any success with the Vero in this thread? (I'm using the one with the modifications to unground Sustain lug 1) I have the trim set up with 500 ohms either side so the CA3080E I'm using (Harris) should be set up OK, however I'm getting no sound at all with any setting of the Volume and...

Re: Mad Professor - Blueberry [traced]

I built it without problem, but did notice that the BF244As are shown in the wrong orientation I believe. I was expecting to reverse my 2n7000s, but instead realised they had to go in as the Fets are orientated on the layout and it was A OK.

Maybe start there?

Yes 0.93 should be all good I'll grab the schematic tomorrow and have a double check Mike - though it all looks good to me you never know, a fresh pair of eyes and all! How many vero layouts you done now Mike? I've seen a ton from you? You must have a huge collection of DIY pedals! Thanks, I know I...

I meant version 0.93 should be fine. See the image, not that it is 7% wrong (seriously, wtf?)

Mnay thanks, I can get hold of the NE5534 so I'll give that a shot. How did the build go Mike? I wanna give this one a try too, I love compressors! Found some errors in my layout - this should work. It sounds nice. https://i1178.photobucket.com/albums/x374/MadeByMikePedals/ForestGreenCompv093.gif
