Re: Joyo - JF-13 AC Tone [schematic]
Well, below are a few botched pics of my mod. There's one lug to cut and to lift on the volume pot. Then 4 wires must be soldered. They are respectively green and black, for those soldered to the outer lugs of the volume pot, on the back of the PCB. I've put red circles and arrows to show where to s...

Re: Joyo - JF-13 AC Tone [schematic]
@brainchutney, Hi, Passing much time to tinker on guitar gear, I don't remember exactly what I've done in this case (and I've not the pedal at disposal right now)... I'll try to refresh my memories and to build something readable on this basis if time permits (which is the main problem for me right ...

Re: Fuzz pedal output signal effected by placement on pedal board
+1 about the fuzz in first position as being something to try. At least before the buffer of the Boss tuner and not after it. I've already heard decay artifacts apparently due to Boss buffers at the input of drive circuits. IME, an OCD does that too, for instance. Regarding the loss in high frequenc...

Frequency response of the "new" tone control pictured in the attached file... Pot @ 0, full up or in between. Vertical steps of 5dB. FWIW.

Re: "Cheap trick" to smooth the tone of a TC electronic Tube Pilot...
To other contributors: thx for sharing. Having a boatload of other drive pedals (including other tube circuits, home made or not), I did not need to change the gain structure of the TC Tube Pilot. So, I've just refined my initial idea of tone control for it. The one shown in the attached file (5spic...

Re: Joyo - JF-13 AC Tone [schematic]
A delayed echo to the cab sim bypass mod evoked above, since I've done it on an American Sound a few minutes ago... I've took the direct signal from the top of R33 and not from its bottom going to C14/R25. No need of 3,3k added resistor in this case IME: levels are similar with or without cab sim. B...

Re: Crowther Audio - Hot Cake Overdrive [traced]
As the XLF mode in a Hot Cake clone didn't get much use here, I've modded it... Without XLF, the coupling cap before the volume pot is now a 10nF. Cuts frequencies under 300hz. Makes the pedal tighter and therefore more versatile IME/IMHO. YMMV. Have put a 150nF in series with a 47nF (=35.78nF in th...

Welcome young tinkerer and thx to share (from an old fart 43 years older than you). :-P
Glad if you're pleased with your mods, like mine fulfil my needs. Nothing else matters. Enjoy!

Re: DIAZ TEXAS RANGER question
the main reason that comes to mind is i tried it through a clean amp....anyways... big thanks one more time! You're welcome... and I agree with the reason evoked. :-) IMHO, a circuit like the Diaz Texas Ranger can give really good results in a drive channel, before drive pedals or at least in a pus...

Re: DIAZ TEXAS RANGER question
Hello, Yes, "Treble Boosters" based on the Rangemaster recipe are actually high mids boosters and don't distort by themselves: they just... boost. Why are they high mids boosters ? It would be long to explain correctly and in details but to sum it up simplistically, it's due to how passive...

Re: Colorsound - Power Boost / Overdriver
A side note about clones... I've bought one to a relatively famous vendor. Neither the schematic nor the bill of materials mentioned the 100nF cap going across the bass pot. The circuit works without this cap but it makes the bass pot necessarily not selective enough... So, let's share a corrected v...

Re: "Cheap trick" to smooth the tone of a TC electronic Tube Pilot...
Ain't got the time to trace the schematic of the unit. Anyway, there's a lot of SMD components in it and my eyes are getting old. But I've added a tone control to both of my TP's. I've first tried a tone stack like in the Butler Tube Driver. Nice but (as expected) there was too much insertion loss. ...

Re: Varitone switch part number
What value for the choke, would you say, ticks all the right boxes in a VariTone circuit ? Not an easy question for an old geek like me :-P... It depends on the guitar & pickups involved, IMHO & IME. And even on the harness. Gibson did mount 15H chokes in guitars and 30H in bass, AFAIK... T...

Re: Varitone switch part number
thanks Guys, i did my tests with this circuit. I had a 1.5H inductor. This inductor is keeping the highs with the capacitor in the circuit. With a 1.5H inductor, the circuit is lowering the output level and increasing the high range, exactly like with two pickups in parallel. Reason why the 2d and ...

Re: Varitone switch part number
The Gibson schematics work. Simplifying them might give a different behaviour to the VariTone circuit. Proper rotary switches can normally be found in various web shops - Stew Mac, WDmusic, Thomann... At least that's where I've bought such parts in the past. Capacitors: some vintage Gibson included ...

Re: Hiwatt Tube Distortion - gutshots & schematic [schematic]
Feeding this tube heater with such extreme voltage only conduct to shorten their life expectancy and does nothing to the resulting sound. Cut a track on the tube board and place a 39 ohms 2watt resistor in series with the pin 5. This suggestion is also valid to the overdrive pedal you have. Try to ...

Re: Tone control based on Guild T-Bird
Yep, there's many interesting things to do with tone caps. One can even put them in an external case like Fralin did. LOL. Here is an example where he uses this experimental device to demonstrates how a 2,2nF (and not the usual 22nF) tone cap sounds with a Telecaster: https://youtu.be/8t_eqST1pWQ?t=...
