Re: GTFO - A true valve high-gain overdrive

I shielded all input-output wires… and nothing the same bullshit whistle  I could try to shield gain pot wires… but I think this is a bit extreme and it is starting to be a pain in the ass since everything is mounted… why the hell it was 100% clean before boxing it? this is the noise, the peda...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

From the datasheets, J201 are way noisier than 2N5457 for sure. 2N's seems to be a must for the input stage of cascaded fet amps. 2N7000 are not too bad for noise, but probably not as good a a good low noise Jfet like a 2N5457. What are your thoughts on the 2N5484? I looked at the data sheet and th...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

ok,put it in a box and still get the noise on half volume on the guitar? Me thinks there is something else? :hmmm: Not sure why it stops at full volume on my guitar with the gain fully dimed? Like I said, it only happens when I roll the volume knob back on my guitars so it seems like some...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

Shielded wire on output and input, yes. But, it's not in an enclosure yet... Still naked on the bench  That's the way I like'em! That's the problem, you see when the circuit is enclosured in metal box, box acts like a shield, then all other variations are excluded, like RF noise, ligh...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

Mensur, I think the power filtering needs to be redesigned? I noticed that by replacing R24 with a trim pot I was able to get rid of a lot of noise but I am still getting a lot of background noise/hum especially when I back off the volume on the guitar? Even with the gain pot set half way...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

I think I got it, very usable tone control now! I pretty much stuck exactly to the schematic except I temporarily installed trim pots for R22, R24 and R25. I also tried different caps for C5, C10, C17 and C18 in an effort to clean up the power but I went back to the original values. Keep in mind th...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

Maybe the way I have it laid out is contributing to the added noise? The version 3.1/3.2 works better in regards to the noise! It's still there but much less... Maybe since I have the three tone stack traces running under the power rail it is causing extra noise? Thoughts? Jim make the schematic, d...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

Sounds like I was right... Go figure!Just joking Mensur, please take no offense! Changing the 22n cap to 2.2n looses a lot of bass frequencies and the fat switch is only recovering a small amount of it, so all in all it should sound thinner than the original. Which is confirmed apparently. D6 chang...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

For D6, it is interesting. Do you have any source where I could read more about it? Thanks For the D6 magic lies in elevating source voltage above which FET is biased, so if FET floats on the so to speak 1VDC with D6 the value goes up to 1.2-1.7V, so the audio signal is more likely compressed, not ...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

Hey, I have some comments on your mods: 1) The fat switch will not be a dramatic change at the frequency band of a guitar according to my calculations, something like +2 dB at 80Hz (low E). I would be heard quite well with a bass guitar still. 2) Your primitive noise gate may not work with an imped...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

What's the idea behind the R20/D4/D5..? Looks interesting! That's primitive but perfect Peavey noise gate, which I use in all of my designes, the idea is that 1M acts like bleed while anti-parallel diodes block 0.6V of the audio, hence low noise perfect sound. I am not sure about your values for R6...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

Here is a less metal sound... still pretty heavy but toned down a bit. Sh!tty playing, timing horrible but if I run a Superior Drummer it kills my CPU... It's already killing my CPU just running a cab sim and slight delay! http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11178619/Dragon%20Attack2.mp3 Nice tone my friend, I...

Silly question....how about doing the reverse engineering from Fets to tubes now that theres a working soundalike? Aharon That would be an endevor! I am not even sure where the first person that created the Diefet got the schematic? I have not been able to find a diezel VH4 schematic for nothin!!! ...

Re: BLACK FOREST - Based on the Bogner Uberschall

Jok3rx, I am not sure why you have a problem with the output volume: This circuit should be quite loud compared to a bypass from the guitar itself (if passive pickups). Even with another pedal before, you should be able to have the bypass match the output without problem in most situations (would w...

If I get a combination bat85 + 2SK30A, I can uses original schematics (not mods with j201+trim).
Yes, because they are very close to each other, there is no wide difference between them.
