Re: Poodle's Pedal Parts

Seeing as I grumbled about the switches originally, maybe I should qualify my comments? I normally use Cliff switches as I sell the majority of the stuff that I build and, as noted above, "some people like names". I ordered a small amount of the 3PDTs from Pedalpartsuk as I was curious to ...

Re: Poodle's Pedal Parts

Dunno *who* he is but the cheapo 3pdt switches that he sells have crappy threads and nuts on them.

Re: Completely asinine question. (Re: Battery Clips)

I use double-sided sticky foam pads.

They flex with the clip when you insert/remove the battery.

Re: PCB Transfer Help

It's all about the acetate as far as I'm concerned. You can get A4 'transparency film' from most decent stationery places. It's a bit pricier than photo paper but cheaper than press'n'peel. 5 minutes of ironing and it peels off without any of that white crap that paper leaves behind. Dead easy and c...

Re: EXPLODING filter cap!

Right, removed D20, D21, D26 and D27. Still seeing continuity between +HT and +MT. Then out of interest, had a look at the fuses. Was getting continuity between all of then fuses (F1 to F6). Removed Con3 (which connects the transformer to the fuses). No more continuity between the fuses. Would I be ...

Thanks for the suggestion Ron. I'll try removing those 4 x diodes to the left of the suspect caps this evening and hopefully I'll lose the continuity...

Re: EXPLODING filter cap!

OK, removed both caps.

HT and MT are both reading 98.6v or there abouts with the caps removed.

Getting continuity between the pads where C16 was. C13 is knackered but C16 seems (visually) OK...

Re: EXPLODING filter cap!

Thanks Lolbou!

C13 is the exploder. the top has blown off and goo has leaked out!

I'm getting continuity between the +s of both caps (C13 and C16).

Replace the pair of them?

EXPLODING filter cap!

Hey all. My brother has kindly given me his Marshall 7200 bass amp to fix. It works fine for about 2 minutes after switching on, then fizz, pop and out comes the magic smoke. A big (5600uF 80v) cap in the power supply keeps going. At first I thought it was just that the cap was a bit old (10+ years)...

This is from the Hammond site:

I'd give that Radionics place a ring to start with.

Re: Univox - Univibe (Uni-vibe)

The two resistors form a divider. This is the same principle as the volume control pot used on pretty much all pedals. So, to replace those two resistors with a pot, you'd attach the middle pin of the pot at the point where R35 and 36 meet, with pin 1 joining C18 and pin 3 connecting to R37. Or vice...

Re: OHT or press n peel blue??

sorry for being off topic but what about silkscreen? i was at a printing shop today buying supplies and saw some sample pcb screens. too many people in the shop so i didn't bother to ask. will investigate further on my next visit. Better again (in my experience), particularly if you're doing a numb...

Re: OHT or press n peel blue??

If you mean the clear acetate sheets that are designed for overhead projectors, then yes, they work well (for me). If the iron is too hot then you can smear the toner though. I prefer it to photo paper because you don't get the white residue that you have to scrape off and you don't need to soak the...

Try here:

Dunno if there's a wait, but at those prices I wouldn't be surprised.

From his posts on 18watt.com he seems like a decent bloke.

Re: New 18 Watt build. Ideas for possible mods?

I built a 2 channel 18 watter recently - 1 channel is a 'lite', the other is a Lead from AX84 which is pretty much a JCM800 preamp I think. I used a vactrol switching system to keep it to one input jack, no pops either.

I'm really pleased with it.

Re: The Squarewave Parade - DOWNGRADE

According to the guy who makes (made?) them, it's a Bugcrusher. The recipe is here: http://www.getlofi.com/?p=626 Given that it's using one battery, I'm thinking one of those ICs is a charge pump. The bottom-most IC in the photos is a Maxim chip. Go me! :D So otherwise, there's some kind of buffer/...
