Thanks man. A schematic is a solid starting point. Not sure I have the skills to to turn it in to a functional unit but there are people out there who can.The Rotagilla wrote:Here you go!

Re: Reverend Drivettrain / Drivetrain II
I meant question 3. The other two, I don't know the answer, but maybe some of our more learned members will have the answers for you. I can work on getting pics. These pedals are 10 years old now. I figured someone would have investigated them long ago. I didn't find much in my search which is why ...

Reverend Drivettrain / Drivetrain II
A few questions. 1) Were there 2 separate pedals i.e. a Drivetrain followed later by a Drivetrain II? Mine has no markings to indicate its a II for example but is commonly referred to as such. 2) Is there a clone out there? I love mine but the enclosure is pretty big I think by today's standards. I ...

Re: Arion - SCH-Z Stereo Chorus [schematic]
I had one of these in the 80's. I was mocked mercilessly for having that "junk" on my pedal board. I thought it sounded great and kept it for a long time. To see it getting its due all of these years later is pretty sweet You had either an SCH-1 of an SFC-1 (the Fat Chorus). In the 80's t...

Who is even selling these things in the US? I see a few on ebay.

Re: MXR Custom Badass '78 Distortion [schematic]
I just got this pedal as a Christmas gift. I like the idea that the crunch button switches in a pair of LED's in place of the silicon diodes. I had bought a used DS1 a while back and the first mod O wanted to try was replacing diodes with LED's
Looking forward to giving this a thorough test drive

Re: Diode types
with all settings being the same. The controls might be set the same but the circumstances are not! As someone mentioned before, the voltages need to be "normalised". The input signal (gain) needs to be about 3 times higher and the output level (volume) needs to be about 3 times lower so ...

Re: Diode types
On the Ge clipping softer thing. If you normalised the voltage (which is what you do in a pedal, with a suitable amount of gain after the clipping stage) then the Ge will be a whole lot softer than any of the others. I suspect your idea of "a whole lot softer" is my idea of "a bit so...

Re: Diode types
I definitely don't want Germaniums in my DS-1 mod then. :) Definitely LED's there I think. How much if any does the color of the LED make? Is that simply a function of the forwarding voltage or it its simply a cosmetic thing? I am sure someone with DS-1 experience will advise you on what works and ...

Re: Diode types
Yes, diodes in series you add the forward volts drops together. As you say LEDs having a much higher forward voltage drop will require a lot more gain than a single or even 2 series silicon diodes to get to the same distortion level. I definitely don't want Germaniums in my DS-1 mod then. :) Defini...

Re: Diode types
Sorry for the serious answer.. but: Diodes don't have any tone as such.. they're just a simple semiconductor component that conducts current in one direction and blocks it in the other, and they require a certain forward voltage (which varies depending on type), before they begin to conduct. How th...

Looking at a new build. Based on my most recent experience LED's seem to have a fatter, smoother tone than the more standard silicon diodes commonly used. WHere does the germanium diode fit in all of this? I am looking at using switchable clipping between LED's and Germaniun diodes. From what I have...

Voodoo Lab Overdrive
Isn't this pedal basically a recreation of an older circuit? I seem to recall that it is but I don't recall which one. I have one that works nicely as a boost but I don;t care for the drive. Anyone have suggestions on tweaks to add al ittle low end and smooth out the top end?

Re: Boss - DS-1 Distortion mods (what works, what doesn't?)
Complete rookie here. Having read through a mind numbing number of mods for a DS-1 I put together this combination of mods to try out. The first section is from the AMZ mod and the rest I believe are from a premier guitar article. The goal is to lower the gain a bit, lose the bright/fizziness and l...
