Re: Benson Preamp [SOLVED]

You could have fake J201s. They are not being made any more. You really need some test equipment if you are going to DIY and a multimeter is essential.

Re: Amp switching

Short answer is no. What do you want to switch and what do you mean by switching capability?

Looking at the construction of this pedal, I wonder how many other commercial pedals were made on perf/vero board.

How do you know its a silicon transistor? Germaniums were available in plastic packages like this - I have some. What is the type number?

Re: BC183L

Dont worry about it electrically they are the same - it usually means it is made by a different mfgr and some times the leads are a different orientation eg. instead of emitter base collector they are base collector emitter.

Re: Are these Fake? (NKT275)

Yes they may be. The writing should be the other way round and in 2 lines, NKT in one and 275 in the other. There should also be a red dot next to the collector lead. Google NKT275 and you'll see what I mean. However, they may well fit the 275 parameters. If they are germanium they could well work. ...

Re: BAJA 59 Tweed Bassman debugging help needed

The 180k resistor is needed to bias the op-amp otherwise the output of the op-amp will sit at a voltage determined by the internal leakage. It will not amplify properly. The voltage readings on the inputs of the op amps will be affected by the internal resistance of the measuring device and should n...

Re: How do I choose a pair of Ge NKT275 for fuzz face build?

There are no OEM NKT275s available any more. Any so labelled are other more recently made germanium transistors selected for similar characteristics. They are mostly in the incorrect case pattern. They will not be made using the same construction method that Newmarket used. I used to work in my yout...

A TL071 contains only one op-amp whereas a TL072 contains two. The pin outs are different look at the datasheet.
