Probably bad solder joint could be the problem. If only you can post some larger picture of the board (traces side and component side). Check the wires inside too, one could be broken.

Mariusz.

Re: Top Tone - Light Drive [traced]
I can't post the schematic. For some reason "upload attachment" doesn't work for me. I have the corrected schematic. If anyone want's it feel free to e-mail me or send me a pm with a request. Best regards, Mariusz. 1. Click on [Browse] button 2. Select the image you want to attach 3. Clic...

Re: Top Tone - Light Drive [traced]
This is one way to state the resistor value. For example R24 is 100E which means it is 100 ohm value. The same thing concerns other resistor values expressed in "E" manner.

Re: Top Tone - Light Drive [traced]
I agree. I would like to see a verified schematic as well. Totally, man. All throughout this thread, I see people commenting, "oh yeah, totally an SS-2", with no links at all to where they are getting this information? Is there an SS-2 schematic floating around that no one has posted here...

Hi guys. Try out bat43 and bat85 in clipping stages. I have just tried G-2 out with all bat43 and it sounds just great, much overdrive and headroom.

Re: Hiwatt Jimmy Page replica
From what I know, also all preamp tubes are ECC83. I've made a PCB layout for DR103/DR504 preamp, but not tested it yet. About pics thats is all what I think is on the net: http://www.petecornish.co.uk/dghiwatthistory.html

Re: Top Tone Light Drive [traced]
Thanks guys. Ended up making another pedal true bypass, using 1n695 Ge diodes. Sounds the goods now, really happy with it. Thanks for tracing MWichni. Curious to know what C5 does as it is not present in Skrydstrup schem. No problem, I just always wanted to build and play that SS-2 pedal. About the...

You can also try to replace 470nF capacitor with some higher one 680nF or even 1uF.

Hi, nice work Tinkerman. Have you compared the tone to the ss-2 samples on youtube? How it sounds for you?

Re: Top Tone Light Drive [traced]
Here is the only 2 other pictures that I have. One is a SS-2 G-2 duplex pedal, on the right side there is SS-2. Second shows one of the effects boards and there is a SS-3 next to green double potentiometer.

Maybe, unfortunately I don't have them. And don't know where to buy them.fakcior wrote:Exactly, I've checked AA117 datasheet and it has extremely low Vf, even for germanium diode - max. 180mV for I=1mA. Maybe they should be used in Cornish G2 clone also?

Re: Top Tone Light Drive [traced]
Any germanium diode will be ok. In skrydstrup odr-2 AA117 was used, in toptone unfortunately diodes were gooped so I couldn't read them from the pictures. So on the schematic I used 1n270 as in distortion+, tested my build with them and they sound good. But as I said it could be any germaniums- clip...

Re: Top Tone Light Drive [traced]
Maybe. About the volume I think that it is better to isolate tone control of volume control. In skrydstrup volume is before recovery stage probably to maintain fixed output impedance.

Re: Top Tone Light Drive [traced]
Well the only evidence that top tone is based on the SS-2 is picture of the pcb. It is a little modified copy of the cornish layout pcb (they just cut the size by put the pcb fom two halfes). If you saw the G-2 pcb you'll immidiately notice similarities (it have the same topology of the traces). And...

Nice one JOHNO! I really like the graphics on the box.
Krinkle, could you post pictures of the SS-2 that you have?
