Re: Shin Ei 8TR Fuzz Capacitor designations. [schematic]

Ok, so you have two caps with values 200x smaller and one cap 5x bigger than what's expected to be, according to the schematic. This doesn't really mean the schematic is wrong, they may have used what they had on hand at the time (check the big muff versions story), or they just copy-pasted together...

Re: Shin Ei 8TR Fuzz Capacitor designations. [schematic]

Nice thing the schematic is inside the lid! That's exactly the same one that's around the internet. Just keep in mind they're not always correct. But anyway. When you read a schematic and/or parts value, keep in mind there are some values that are "standard" for some brands/types of parts ...

Re: Shin Ei 8TR Fuzz Capacitor designations. [schematic]

1H102K: 102 is basically the same as you read a resistor. 10 with two zeros = 1000. The unit is pF, so you have 1000pF = 1nF (or 0.001uF) .1K 50: not sure on this one. Probably 0.1uF 50V 50V .2: 0.2uF = 200nF. You'll probably find for sale a 220nF rather than a 200nF cap. 60V .05: 0.05uF = 50nF. You...

Nice build. And nice story, he does seems like a very smart guy. I did some research on his story, and now I'm very curious on that circuit.

Re: FULGORA DRIVE: a versatile single-transistor dirt box

As basic as a single transistor gain stage is, it can sound so good and fun to play with. If you want to make it more versatile, here are a couple things you can try: 1- use a 1K pot wired as a variable resistor to ground instead of the 560r resistor. This will give you another gain pot. Btw, I'd ca...

Re: Vandal - a 2-channel preamp inspired by the Randall RG10

2N5485s, maybe? I built the red channel a few days ago using 85s, and had some issues too. Running the circuit at 18V, I got less distortion than I was expecting and volume below unity, even with the switch disengaged. Didn't tried other fets or voltages.

Re: Baja low noise low current drain bass guitar preamp 1212 [documentation]

Ok, so I shielded the bass and played with this preamp a little bit more. This is a little beast and what I can say to all the bass players is to just build it! I loved the distorted bass sound I can get at full volume. With a shielded bass and 9V battery, it's dead quiet. No noise at all. Mine is s...

Re: Baja low noise low current drain bass guitar preamp 1212 [documentation]

So I finally built and tested this one. I made the mistake of wiring both tone pots in reverse, since I'm not good on understanding tone stacks I go for the luck, it's a 50/50 chance of getting it right :lol:. The first thing I must say is this is loud. So loud it easily distorted my amp when I turn...

Re: Baja low noise low current drain bass guitar preamp 1212 [documentation]

if i'm reading the schematic correctly, the bass control is setup like a variable resistor/rheostat (only wiper and one of the lugs used) as opposed to a potentiometer (wiper and both lugs used), yes? I don't think that will make any difference. You'll just chamge the resistance between wiper and o...

Nice you got it working! What was the problem? Now it's time to make the bass pot work.
I'm gonna try it soon, just need to etch the board (I'll be using Jarno's layout) and wait for some parts to arrive by mail.

Jarno, your layout looks great! Just a few suggestions to make it more DIY friendly:
- bigger spacing between tracks and ground plane;
- wider tracks;
- bigger jumper pad.
The way you made is fine for professional pcbs/photosensive transfer, but for toner transfer it won't be an easy job.

The schematic on the 1st post does work, that is the one you need. And there's a working layout somewhere on this post, in a pdf file. I built one using that layout.
