Re: Bigfoot FX Magnavibe [traced]

Hi,

No, there is a drop in volume without the buffer (and with it).
The probe test I did only proved the the buffer on it's own was unity or above.

Re: Bigfoot FX Magnavibe [traced]

I have just built the buffered version from the vero layout on this thread (unverified). The effect works, but is low in volume. I used an audio probe to listen between guitar and buffer to amp, and volume levels were good, so I'm assuming it's not the buffer. I used 2N 5089 transistors, and the pin...

Hi, mine goes into self oscillation. Adrian Belew used that feature of the pedal in King Crimson.
Trimpot adjustment?

I used the above vero layout to build a Cheese Source box.
(that's a Big Cheese and Brown Source in one box)

Turned out nice!

Re: Nocturne Brain Seltzer Classic [traced]

Looks like we're gonna have to do one with onboard buffer (and perhaps a charge pump?). How is the high-end with the buffer to your ears Graemey? Electromatic thought it was a bit much. If a treble cut is needed that would make it at three knob preamp. The high end sounded nice to me. I suppose it ...

Re: Nocturne Brain Seltzer Classic [traced]

[quote="electromatic"] Anyways, just wanted to chime in, that the nocturne with Dynasonic pickups reacts WAY better with a buffer in front. I just put the pedal on my mini-board, with an older Korg DT10 pedal at the front... WHOA. Holy-high-end-recovery-bat-man! /quote] Just tried mine wit...

Re: Nocturne Brain Seltzer Classic [traced]

I thought it was a bit too obvious - and I was right. Then I honestly don't have a clue. It's a simple hi-pass filter. It simply has to work! :hmmm: That's what I thought. I'm gonna try it today with my Marshall Vintage Modern Head. Great amp to dial in some nice valvey tones. See if I can hear the...

Re: Nocturne Brain Seltzer Classic [traced]

I still can't get mine to make any difference to the sound. I have checked the pot, wiring etc and even tried different value caps but nothing. As I said earlier, the original Nocturne tone has a subtle but noticeable effect, my build tone knob does nothing. You do have the lug 1 and 2 co...

Re: Nocturne Brain Seltzer Classic [traced]

Just finished a rough build and compared it to the real Nocturne. I used my Gretsch 6120 with TV Jones classic filtertrons and my Vox AC30. Sounds pretty much the same :applause: The tone control is indeed subtle on the Nocturne, but it does provide a useful bass-cut. The tone control on my build is...

Re: Nocturne Brain Seltzer Classic [traced]

Okay, I have just managed to remove some of the silicon from the board and I'm sure I have all the correct resistor values. I have started to build an attempt at this from Reneshelle's nice looking vero layout but I noticed that the 1st 10uf cap may be the wrong way around? Is that right? Hopefully ...

Re: Nocturne Brain Seltzer Classic [traced]

Dork, I just re-read your first post and you also had a "Brain Seltzer"
They must be the same pedal. Just looking at the pictures you comped together, those resistors could have the same colour banding. perhaps it is a trick of the camera flash?
R1 and R2 certainly look like 10k to me.

Dork wrote:@graemey: Could it be that your friends Pedal is a Dyno Brain? This resistor looks different!

Ah, good question... It is an early one and is actually called a "Brain Seltzer".
Perhaps this version has been renamed the Dyno Brain?

Do you know the difference between models mate? :hmmm:
