Re: Zvex - SHO (Super Hard On) [traced]

I built an SHO clone a few years ago. I pulled it out the other day and put it on my pedalboard, but I found that it was pretty dark sounding compared to my other favorite pedals. I love the tone and sound of it, but it doesn't stand out enough in the context of a band. Anyone else have this experi...

Re: Zvex - Box of Rock [traced]

good to hear that the pres crkt worked well. I just completed my build, and I left the last .002u cap off. Fully CW the treb is way too much, but there's still enough room on the pot to get the tone I want, and still have all the treb i could ever use if needed.

@Bean- Encouraging to hear, thanks for the reply. Yep, the CB has a lot a grind on tap, I believe subbed in a dif gain pot on my build. I didn't need all that dist.

Re: FOXROX - Captain Coconut

Jeez, that one is beat-down. I had one in my hands for a bit when I sold one for a buddy. The Vibe was hard to dial in. It was as if it was too tweakable. The Fuzz and the Octave sounded good though. I had a peak inside the one I had as well, I loved the use of the thimble as the light shield!

Re: Zvex - Box of Rock [traced]

I actually breadboarded the Crunchbox right before I did the BOR. I was pretty happy w/ the Crunchbox, but when I heard the BOR, I thought it did "that" thing a bit better than the Crunch.

Re: Zvex - Box of Rock [traced]

I agree. IMO the BOR is less compressed, more "hard" sounding. The BSIAB def can get "mushy" and a bit flabby at some settings. I am in the process of putting one together for mostly rhythm work. On the subject of the Zener diode, ROG uses a regular red LED for the protection in ...

Re: Jack Orman - Mosfet Booster (question)

if you refer to runoffgroove's peppermill, they use a regular LED for this purpose. IIRC, it used for protection of the MOSFET as they are easily blown.

surely there are a bulb and LDR's under the shield. I would bet that that trimmer is for bias as someone pointed out above.

Re: Baldwin-Burns - Buzzaround [schematic]

as far as the balance control is concerned, I gather that this controls the bias of Q3, what should the voltage range be?? JHS suggested to use a pot for the 27k resistor which I have done. just wondering what kind of swing I should be seeing.

Thanks Torchy for the PCB!

Re: Lovepedal - Magicboy Vibe

A buddy of mine assembled the tonepad 45, with the "magicboy" specs and he could not get it to work. He handed it off to me, and it worked perfectly! The catch is that I was using a RC rechargeable batt to power it, which puts out 10.3v. When we tried a wallwart, and a reg 9v, and recharge...
