Re: BOSS DD2 or DD3 mods for tape echo sound

I recently bought a used DD3 with the intention to mod it, but apparently there is a new, all SMT revision C with a new chipset. The pots are all 50kb and have control voltages on them, so the cap across the pot mod is history :( Does anyone have a schematic for Rev.C? I can only find the older ones...

I have the same problem. The layout seems to include the fix, but there is still a very noticeable drop in volume/gain when engaged. It's unuseable like this, which is a shame because otherwise it sounds really good.

Re: Earthquaker Devices Ghost Echo [guts] [traced]

I just finished my Ghost Echo but either I’m deaf or the dwell knob is too subtle for me or I’ve made a mistake. All three answers are quite possible. I tried to put in a parallel 39K to R22 (22K) push that resistor down to 14K to test John’s solution at Sabrotone’s (http://johnkvintageguitars.home...

This works perfectly, thanks!

Re: Earthquaker Devices Ghost Echo [guts] [traced]

I built this one with Harald Sabro's layout and it sounds great, very eerie and atmospheric. Now when I tested it out of the box, something was shorting and I only got the wet signal coming through, which would be a neat feature to have. So, does anyone know where to add a kill-dry switch to this ci...

Re: [Replica Files] Shin-ei/Univox Uni-Vibe

Idea behind UV replica files, as well as with other projects on my website was to give possibility to build 1to1 clone of Univibe, without these silly mods and upgrades commonly seen in newly, commercial "reproduction". In short, my goal is to make projects stock - if it isn't broken, why...

Re: [Replica Files] Shin-ei/Univox Uni-Vibe

Just wondering any if there is any REAL difference in sound with this replica and the new madbean harbinger project? :?: I am tempted to go this route and have a PCB etched and use Sinners layout just because it is so spot on to the originals :hmmm: I was in the same boat and went with the Harbinge...

Re: SolaSound - Tone Bender MK1.5 [schematic]

EW's right. Even 200-300uA for leakage ain't bad on those. Those shouldn't spit nearly as much a Fuzzrite. Were you tweaking the bias on Q1 or Q2? Some of them do have a sweet kind of nastyness going on, though. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NUWM2HjQsDA I only messed with the 8k2. With higher lea...

I know, mine average at about 250-300uA, that's why I used an AC128 for q1. I just like it better this way.

Re: SolaSound - Tone Bender MK1.5 [schematic]

While swapping transistors around I've found that, while they bias up fine with a little tweaking, leaky ones (over, let's say, 100uA) didn't sound as smooth as low leakage ones with the same gains. The sound got kind of harsh and sputtery (not the decay, that was fine), a bit like a Fuzzrite. Still...

Re: SolaSound - Tone Bender MK1.5 [schematic]

what gains did you used and what is Q2 colector voltage? Q1 is 69 hfe and q2 is 107, leakage for both around 100uA. I tried biasing q2 with a trimpot, and liked it best at around 5,5V, which happened to be around 8k  I went through lots of gain configurations and q2 voltages (started at the us...

Re: SolaSound - Tone Bender MK1.5 [schematic]

Finished mine yesterday with an AC128 in q1 and an OC75 for q2, sounds really good and biases up fine with the stock resistors. Like a low gain MKII on some settings with a more gradual cleanup than a FF. For me, it actually works better for early Zeppelin tones than a MKII :thumbsup

Thanks! I have 60 for q1 and 82 hfe for q2 in there now, it biases up fine and behaves much better than before. The cleanup is smoother and the attack pot got significantly more of a usable range.

Re: SolaSound - Tone Bender MK1.5 [schematic]

Built one of these on perfboard with some oc75's. tested it with my tele but for some reason it doesn't sound as fuzzy as it should, however if I put a clean boost before it I get a nice amount of fuzz. Wondering is there any way within the circuit to boost the input going in without building a sep...

Re: Sola Sound - Tone Bender Mark I (1965) [schematic]

Regarding transistor kits - I took the plunge and bought an OC75 MKI set from Smallbear recently for my MKI that I've been trying forever to bias properly. I don't know for sure, but it seems that these are only being selected with the hfe in mind, not the leakage. On the supplied schematic, they li...

Wonderfully gritty sounding and really fat hi...
