Looks like an early prototype. Soldering on top is a bit messy but nothing really bad.
Still pretty sure it's a Klon clone.

There is also a micro-controller.electrosonic wrote:Is that mictester's relay switching scheme in the lower left corner?
I see a spst, relay, 2 transistors, a small ignal diode, an electro cap and a couple of resistors.

I heard it was a Klon.Dc10 wrote:Premier Guitar does a fairly detailed review. I think it's 2 we'll known circuits cascaded. But that's just a wild guess.

Seems pretty standard level pricing for ToneCzar. If it were reasonably priced, that would be an eye-opener.drbob1 wrote:The price is a little eye-opening, though: $400 plus the usual wait times.

Re: Dumbloid [traced]
The decay fizz is probably from only having one clipping diode. The other rail is left to fizzle out as unclamps.
You get the same sound in diode-less op amp clippers like the Hot Cake. Take the diodes out of a Rat or Tubescreamer and you get the same thing.

Re: Dumbloid [traced]
I'm not sure I'd call this a Tubescreamer. Certainly, the genius "designer" behind this pedal started with a Tubescreamer and then started playing they "what happens if I randomly change this value?" game, otherwise known as "Boutique Bingo". But, moving the clipp...

Can't believe this thread hasn't been linked at TGP yet.
Surely Bloomz and Teleman are anxious to have this information out there.

Re: Dumbloid [traced]
or even worse it may no longer be in working condition when returned. Yeah, but once the schematic is verified, it would be easy to make a new non-shitty circuit board to put back in the pedal to get it working again. And the new board would almost certainly have to be an improvement over the steam...

Re: Dumbloid [traced]
By the way - is it true there's no good reason for gooping a pedal except hiding that it's a copy of something? A lot of folks here certainly feel this way, and I *generally* agree. So far, I've only seen one gooped pedal that wasn't either a blatant copy or a very close knock-off: the Klon. Maybe ...

Re: Dumbloid [traced]
But why does anyone want to get nasty or insulting about it? It's a great sounding pedal. We came to the experts to figure it out - is that so wrong? There is a long-standing bit of "bad blood" between this forum and TGP. Being called pirates, thieves, scoundrels, etc, for years does not ...

My goodness. Things certainly have turned around at TGP over the last couple years. There used to be this thing called "The Tracer's Fund" for exactly what you guys are talking about: Pooling cash to buy pedals that are very expensive...and then reverse engineering the circuit. Maybe you guys can get some interest in getting that going again. My money is on the Dumbloid b...

You could probably ask Brian some details about the circuit. He seems like the kind of guy that would be down to share. He's an actual DIY guy, not a razzle-dazzle boutique douche.

Interesting. So they used the XR2206 function generator IC as the LFO. That's very clever...back when Catalinbread did it in a tremolo.
