Re: MI Audio Crunchbox Mods
It`s just an opamp and diodes to ground that cut the signal. It`s possible to make simple diode clipping circuits more responsive, but it needs a few more parts. The issue with the cleanup in a design like the Crunchbox has to do with the tone circuit. You're losing a lot of treble being shunted to...

Re: J. Rockett Archer IKON gold
I really do think that the pedal business is a glorious opportunity that is squandered by lazy people that can't be bothered to learn basic electronics. While I won't argue that some of them are no doubt lazy, I think that a lot more of them are simply interested in making a profit with "a job...

Re: Rockett Blue Note OD [traced]
All the Rockett pedals I have opened up have used 4001s, not 4007s. Not that it would make much difference either way. It should make absolutely no difference, at all. And, these types of diodes have very small dynamic resistance, so it's typically helpful to combine them in series with other diode...

Re: Keeler Designs Push
I seem to need to have the tone control almost full to be usable. Otherwise it's quite dark. Maybe I should try an audio taper pot there? You may want to try to either wire a log taper pot "in reverse," like a Rat's filter control, or get a reverse-log taper pot, if wiring it "normal...

Re: Lovepedal - Dover Drive [traced]
It just dawned on me that there's no real reason to have the silicon Fuzz Face portion of the Dover Drive use PNP transistors, is there? Wouldn't it almost make more sense just to translate that circuitry to be NPN-based (2N3904)? Epiphany number two - it might be cool to have both a Fuzz Face and a...

Re: 5 Watt Amp mods
Did you try upgrading the OT? Did it make a noticeable difference? I can only speak for my experiences. I put a Weber WSE15 in a Blackheart Little Giant, and the improvement was unbelievably good. And whatever OT comes factory installed in the VHT Special Six (yes, installed from the factory :thumb...

Re: Amptweaker - Tight Metal [traced]
I have not yet tried running this at 18V, but James Brown in his demo showed it gave the pedal a more expansive, less compressed sound. Apropos to that, if I had to build this pedal again, I might add a 18V/9V switch with a voltage double in the circuit. I finally got around to building one a littl...

Re: Bondi Effects - Sick As Overdrive
It doesn't look like there are enough resistors alone to be the same as a Klon. But how about for starters just listing out their values? Some would have to match what the Klon has, right? So next, you look for what are probably pairings with some of those resistors with uncommon cap values, like 10...

I don't doubt that the schematic bmxguitarsbmx created will work but, it's a lot of corrections and guesswork based on a schematic that was wrong to begin with so... ? who knows?? Ya never know, it may sound better than the BE100, give it a try and let us know. I myself am not satisfied until it's ...

Re: Friedman BE-OD Pedal [traced]
All ops should bias up. presence is dubious at best Assuming the schematic is now more close to what's actually going on than not, some of the familiarity in the sounds seems kind of apparent. The tightness control does appear to be similar to what Amptweaker is doing - a highpass filter that's als...

...no ground-shunted clippers. ...The SOT-23 series pair diode clipping is different... Interesting... Any chance the diodes are in the negative feedback loop of an op amp stage that's got the signal going thru the inverting input? That's actually pretty similar to hard clipping. The Runoffgroove.c...

here's Fred Briggs blog post on the lovepedal superlead (similar to the marshall guv'ner) with scheme :) . http://revolutiondeux.blogspot.com/2012/01/lovepedal-superlead.html here's a good demo of the lovepedal. the demo dude rolls his volume back at the end and it cleans up. Tones are similar. Add...

Pete Thorn's video shows a ton of knob turning. I also wouldn't be surprised if there is a gyrator in there for that resonant bass response: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NVotKbmlDic If there's anything active for the bass, it actually sounds kind of fixed. The bass response doesn't seem to compl...

I know you will probably think I'm crazy but have you checked out the schematic for the Danelectro Fab Metal? I know that the Fab Metal is like a simplified version of the Dano Fab Tone, which is like a simplified MT-2. No, I don't think you're crazy - it's that type of pre-gain into the primary ga...

Though the dynamics aren't as subdued as the shredmaster...This video shows that there is very little control over the gain. The pedal seems to be full bore or slightly less full bore. So I went back and listened to the audio in the video more closely, and don't think it's probably much of a Shredm...

The monolithic circuit and parameters of the sovereign are very similar with the pinnacle Indeed. It seems that there are a bit of similarities, in particular, with it and the Pinnacle LE. The latter was traced out in what I think was a Pinnacle II thread. So I went and dropped in the capacitor val...

Re: THE OPAMPs WAR differences between different types of op
Uh, actually, you can measure well below 0.1% distortion and hear it too. There are limits of course, but lower than 0.1%. There are limits both to hearing and to measuring. As it turns out, people can hear some things that are pretty hard to measure, but that's just a limitation of existing test t...
