Re: capacitors

and how long would the cap take to discharge (I'm working on a design with a constant DC current running through it - from my obvious lack of knowledge i'm sure i'll fail miserably)

Re: capacitors

sorry, for my ignorance, but wouldn't the capacitor eventually reach full capacity and let dc current leak?

capacitors

wasnt sure where to post this... can a capacitor absorb a constant DC current? if a pedal had a constant dc offset of 1V, could the appropriate capacitor absorb this constant current, even with ac (guitar) signal on top of it, so that the net dc offset would be zero? or would it be necessary to have...

Re: Volume pedal after buffer

I'm not as savvy as most of the guys here, but I'm confused - since the signal is no longer passive, should i use the 25k pot? or am i just complicating things? thanks.

Volume pedal after buffer

I guess this is the place to post this...

Basically, I'm wondering what the best value pot is for use after a buffer - specifically, my chain will be:
MI audio Boost 'n' Buff -> Russian Big Muff -> Volume Pedal -> Boss DD7

thanks. btw, any recommendations for a wah/volume pedal?

Re: headroom defined... are u at max headroom gauranteed at 10?

most amps will be dirty on 10 with most pickups. if its still clean, you have not yet exceeded the amps headroom. A boost can still make it (at least perceivably) louder, but it will also cause more compression + distortion. however, through the effects loop you may be able to make it louder than po...

many thanks! however, my friend has the attention span of a gold fish, and i dont think this will happen with his guitar. maybe one of mine someday when i finally have money... do you use the pad regularly?

Re: any info on reverend bass contour?

yea, its such a simple idea, and so effective, its surprising that other companies dont catch on. if youve got a treble control on almost all guitars, why do almost none have bass controls? and they are just as simple to wire.... not to mention bypassed completely at full, unlike treble controls

Re: strat series wiring

if you wire the neck/middle in series, by connecting neck ground + middle hot, and then connecting that to the middle pickups usual hot, and wire the neck pu's hot to normal 1 bridge + neck 2 Middle+bridge (parallel) 3 Middle+neck(out of phase) 4 Middle 5 Neck then, if you wire the the neck's hot to...

Re: any info on reverend bass contour?

so its a variable version of a jaguar style bass control? i did that to my jag, but it only seemed to change in the lower range of the pot... i think it was linear though, not audio

Re: ken fischer multi sound HB

so i think it works like this, with A toward the left, B controls which coil is split, with A to the right, B controls which coil is bypassed by the cap. is that right? what would be the difference in sound with which coil is bypassed? and C is always a phase switcher, but can create different sound...

Re: crate palomino v8

many thanks for that graph, helps allot. although, the crate changed the values around(as you noted), creating a much higher loss... and i believe more treble, since C9 is bypassing the treble, but the rest of the frequencies are cut. but assuming the SS preamp can reach unity gain, doesnt that mean...

Re: ken fischer multi sound HB

very interesting, ive thought about caps filtering between the coils of a humbucker, but bypassing one coil with a high-pass filter is genius-it would act as a single coil above the cutoff, and a humbucker below... absolutely genius! ive got to try that...

Re: top loaded tele vs. string through?

i dont know whether les pauls have angled necks or not, but an angled/shimmed neck does put more pressure on the bridge, its the same thing as lowering the tailpiece

Re: crate palomino v8

i said 'level' because the way it is implemented in this amp, its a master volume, so all distortion at low volumes comes from V1a. and c9 is a jtm style treble boost, unless im missing something? when you crank the preamp, and turn up the level control, theres little difference in clipping. when yo...

Re: crate palomino v8

thinking about this some more, im starting to think that the crapiness comes from the section between v1a and v1b. all of the crap in between boosts treble unnecessarily, and makes it impossible to hit v1b and the power section with any authority. i think bypassing c9 and the level control is a good...

a string-through is the ultimate in terms of coupling. although i guess a case could be made for the one-piece wraparound
